    For myself it is Notepad ++ , mainly because I have it on my ninite build for new pcs. It is however easy to use and has some clear advantages visually over traditional notepad.

    Metapad isn't the most feature rich notepad but i like to use it as a direct replacement for the "notepad.exe"
    I just rename it to "notepad.exe" and replace the 12 copies of Microsoft's version.

    Sublime text 3 just to many useful hotkeys and its fast! i need to try some of the newer ones like Adobe Brackets and the lightweight Visual studio editor.

    Our web guru recommended to try Atom and it looks decent. You need to install several plugins to have the basic things you need and I'm missing some things like "go to declaration", but hopefully those will be added in the next versions. Brackets looks nice as well and the monospace font is great for readability, but it can be added to most editors.

    Don't think you can beat Notepad++ with plugins.

    Notepad++ for Windows!

    Have recently got a Mac though, don't suppose anyone knows the nearest equivalent in the MacOS world?

    Sublime when available, I use some of the shortcuts like simultaneous editing of multiple variables etc but probably the main reason I use it is the aesthetic.

    DonĀ“t do anything now that needs more than wordpad.

    Favourite used to be qj.com. Could edit and navigate way more intuitively than DOS edit command. Had loads more features as well. Tried finding it on a backup a few years ago, but failed.

    Oh man, I couldn't live without notepad ++, certainly can't get a Mac now!

    Got to be visual studio.. And notepad ++ with FTP plugin is fantastic for editing on the server.
