    What's your favourite text editor?

    All the kids around here are using this thing called "Sublime".

    Up to now, I use a combination of nano, vi, gedit and texmaker depending on what I'm doing.

    Now that I'm writing up my thesis, however, I am transitioning to gvim. It took me a little bit of time to get anything done, but it doesn't take long before it becomes really useful.

    So, what do the rest of you nerds use?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Mostly GNU emacs, Notepad++ with Emmet if I'm using Windows. Tried a demo of Sublime Text, didn't do enough to drag me away from what I'm used to and it's pricey for what it is..

    Sublime Text 2. It is pricey for what it is but it's worth it for me.

    I've never 'got' sublime. It doesn't offer much over notepad++ that is useful, compared to having a proper IDE which understands static reflection of the languages in question.

    If they priced it at say $10, I'd be interested, but at the price they charge I just don't get it. I suppose its because most text I handle has a grammar and type system, which I want to navigate via, rather than just pure textual.

    Wow, so from all these Notepad++ remarks... I guess everyone still uses Windows.

    I've been in research too long...

    These (well VS2012 at the minute as I haven't gotten round to installing 2013)

    The XML tools in Notepad++ are really helpful, especially the pretty print ctrl+alt+shift+b

    my favourite way of handling XML is to not handle XML but instead get it in LINQ pad!

    Re: What's your favourite text editor?

    Notepad++

    As a non programmer I find it useful for simple txt, csv or dat based files or anything that just cant be run in notepad without formatting issues. It loads large files fast enough and the compare feature is now built in, but can be a little buggy from time to time. That said I've not updated from version 3, and version 6 is out.
    The Plugin system is very good, it helps make it more complete based on what you do.

    I initially started with Textpad but I just didn't get on with it more for niggly things than its technical ability. The language colouring seemed the complete opposite to other editors and some features that should have been a single mouse click away were awkward to use. It may have changed now but I've no need to move away just yet from Notepad++

    Still love Topstyle for CSS editing, and used to love Homesite+ for web editing, but those days are well and truly over.

    Old school notepad usually is enough for my text editing needs, depending on size wordpad... if I need text highlighted etc, i would download the Notepad++ in extreme circumstances.
