1&1 Web Hosting - anyone had any experience with them?

After having some annoying issues with my current web hosting provider I've decided that a change is in order. 1&1 caught my eye as they're competitively priced, a large company (so have hopefully invested in the necessary backend) and tick all the boxes I need ticked plus a few I didn't know I needed. Has anyone had any experiences with 1&1?

    TIA

Used them for email hosting just for many year. No issues with reliability, though the account management and cancellation process seemed deliberately obfuscated. Moved over to TSOHOST now who have been fine, even have a prompt decent support via a forum.

Mate of my dads used 1&1 and didn't have a good thing to say about them. Their online WYSIWYG editor is awful (I tried to help him out and couldn't get anything decent out of it either, and I'm a web developer by trade..)

I know an ex employer of mine also had a lot of trouble trying to get a bundled domain off them when moving provider as well, not sure if that process has improved since then, it was probably 9-10 years ago now.

I personally wouldn't go near them, but if your requirements are met and you don't need an online editor then I agree they are a well established company who aren't going anywhere.

Used them for about 4 years but ended up leaving them as their prices just kept raising for existing customers. I've gone to ovh.co.uk - costs for a year are about the same as 2 months with 1and1.

I never use them previously. I often heard their name but I also read unpleasant review on google. So, I'm bit worry to choose them. I almost tried them, but because I see bad reviews on google, I become doubt to choose them. I finally decide to choose other hosting provider (hostforlife.eu) to host my website. I'm quite happy with them although sometimes I face issue like slow SQL query. Hmm... But that's rarely. What I like they have good uptime that makes my site always running perfect.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. After some research myself, I decided to plump for Vidahost. So far so good.

We used 1&1 for years in work but the service and reliability of DNS slowly dwindled.
We moved over to heart internet and we have been massively impressed so far, they go the extra mile for you without you asking.

Yes, that's what I'm afraid. I also saw many people complaints about their hosting services. So, I didn't sign up with them and finally I decided hostforlife.eu as my hosting provider.

Bad experience with 1&1 can vouch for Vidahost to you can get some good deals with Vidahost got a great blackfriday deal myself and they always have other offers about or referral codes. You get a lot more for your money with them than some of the bigger names put you on the smallest server with the tiniest bandwidth and the horrors of having to pay for individual databases etc etc.

Re: 1&1 Web Hosting - anyone had any experience with them?

1&1 is famous for forcing onto you a number of extra paid services and renewing them without consent even with the main service has been cancelled. They also make it super difficult to move domains away from them. On top of that they use super shady companies when trying to recover what you "owe" them. It's possible to avoid all the pitfalls but why would one do a business with a company whose primary goal is to shaft you?
