    VX550W cable questions

I was advised by another member of Hexus that for the graphics card I'm planning on getting, the 8800GT (preferably the Palit 512MB Sonic one, but it depends what's available, at what price, and from where at the very end of the month) that I'd need a better power supply than the one that I currently have installed, and suggested the VX450W ( What graphics card to choose? ), so I took the advice but because it was only a few pounds extra, opted for the VX550W instead (just to be sure that I have enough power, in case I also end up adding other stuff into the PC down the line too).

I thought it'd probably be easy enough to fit the PSU straight away when it arrived and use it with the integrated graphics until I get the new graphics card (upon which point I would only have to put the new graphics card in, and away I go).

The problem came however when I discovered that unlike my current PSU, it doesn't have a cable for the integrated graphics port on my motherboard (ASUS M2A-VM), so it looks like I can't put it in until I have the 8800GT.

    My questions are:
    1. Where (if I can) I'd be able to get a cable for the PSU that will go into the integrated graphics port (please see below for an image of the port in question, in case I've got what it's to wrong)?
    2. Why the cable isn't already included with the PSU (since I'd assume there are plenty of other motherboards with the same port needing power)?
    3. When I do get my new graphics card, will I definitely be fine with the included PSU cables, or will I need a different cable for that too?

    Thanks

quite certain that isn't for the integrated graphics, it is a +12V connector for supplementary power for the CPU.

You should see an 8pin cable with your PSU, the connector splits into 2 and will fine in that port

The PSU will come with appropriate cables to power your card

Ah, I see - well, it was more of a guess that it was for the integrated graphics, all I knew was that without something to connect to it, it didn't seem to want to know.

I didn't expect there'd be one that splits into two, so obviously that's why I didn't attempt to do so.

So that's confirmation that I'll be fine without needing to order extra cables for the 8800GT then? The reason I wanted to double check this, is the various posts I've skimmed in this section mentioning not having the right cables - but I guess I might have misunderstood.

    Anyway, thanks for the help

You won't need extra cables when you get the video card. And, as noted, the 4 pin plug above is included on the PSU and you will need to plug it in as that is the supplementary power for the MOBO in addition to the 24 pin plug.
