Can we make a PSU advice sticky?

As the title. It is only a few weeks between threads where someone asks "I want a high end single card GPU in a mid-high end Mobo and a RAID array so clearly i need 2400W PSU with 2000Amps on the 12V rail."

Maybe we could set up a sticky with a few nuggets of advice, like:

    1) what power supply capacities will run what kind of set up,
    2) a summary of the bronze, silver, gold etc efficiencies,
    3) things to check eg noise-load curves, ripple etc with links to some more in depth sites for real techy stuff, but not clogging up the overview with it.
    4) what amps per rail a GPU band (low, mid, high, really high) really requires

That way instead of having to post it every time someone asks we could direct them to a helpful sticky.

I'm not thinking of recommending specific PSUs in it - just an overview of the things a buyer might wish to consider, and some evidence that 1200w supply is not necessary for the majority of people etc.

What would be really ace is if Hexus itself could do a test to show what kind of PSU is really needed for different specs of rig. It would be ace to see how low you could go for a different tiers of GPU card and processor/mobo. EG single GPU mid-range, single GPU high end, single GPU ultra high end. And then multi-GPU rigs too. Measure power draw from the wall, from the PSU etc for the different configurations.

If I had the budget I would do this myself, but heck, if Hexus wanted to loan me the parts and give me enough weekends I would compile it!

Re: Can we make a PSU advice sticky?

I would be personally interested in low power highly efficient PSUs (in case somebody would say, picoPSU plus power brick is not always the solution).

    For example: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/4683...ent-conclusion
