Sliverstone PSU's

Do Silverstone make their own PSU's or are they re-branded? Are they generally good quality? I am interested in a mitx build and they seem to be the only ones that make sfx PSU. I did read they had a noisy 80mm fan. Seems they are releasing a new one with a 120mm fan which should be quieter if slightly longer http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...id=527&area=en

Iirc, they design but outsource manufacture. I have a silverstone SFX PSU in a mini ITX build and I am pleased with it. In fact it's the second one I have used, there other went into a rack case, it was the only reasonably priced PSU that would fit, and that has been working 24x7 for over a year (that's uptime!) without missing a beat. My own server's uptime was over 3 months and was only switched off so I could do a rebuild/upgrade.

I've had 2 SS PSUs.....

One a full size ATX 700w.....I used it for around 8 years and started getting some PC issues, purchased a new PSU and the problems persisted (low 3.3v rail)....gave the Silverstone to a friend and he has been running it trouble-free for the last 3 years......

The other is in a HTPC (SFX factor) where it's been for about 1 year, hasn't missed a beat yet *touches wood* but too early to tell.

Not sure I've ever seen a dead silverstone though.

I had a SS 450W SFX power supply that was bundled with the Sugo SG06 ITX case, it was working perfectly for the 2-ish years I had it, but unfortunately failed with its new owner a few months later when I sold it on.

I can't remember the specifics but IIRC the 450W power supply that came with the case only had one years warranty and I wasn't able to arrange for the PSU to be replaced or repaired under the regular 3 year warranty SS's power supplies have.

I also built a computer for a friend with a really cheap 300W SS PSU six years ago, low spec, heavily used but still working today.

I've had one of these in an mATX system for a year or so now, no problems so far...

This is a excellent resource for psu's. It lists who makes what for who, details of the 12v rail(s) and links to reviews. Silverstone uses several different oem's and the one for the new 500w SFX is Sirtec. The other two gold rated SFX units are built by Enhance Electronics while the pair of bronze units are built by FSP. Hopefully this new unit will be quieter with the 120mm fan.
