    PSU for Corsair 380T

So I have my heart set on this case but I'm struggling with the PSU. 500-650W should be adequate, I've got an i5-4460 and an R9 285 2Gb. I initially just picked a Corsair but I've been warned against it being a lottery on qualty. XFX was suggested and looked good but I'm having trouble nailing down the dimensions on some, even 163mm simply won't fit in the case without DIY that I want to avoid. Modular (Semi or Full) would be nice but not crucial, budget bothers me more to be honest. Any suggestions?

Many would say the PSU is the most important item in the computer, maybe you should get the best PSU that you can afford then choose the case to fit ?
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.

    Re: PSU for Corsair 380T

Cooler Master GM series would be my go-to recommendation, as they are good performers (electrically, acoustically), short (140mm), modular, well priced and long warranty (5 years).
For a higher efficiency alternative, but also more expensive: Cooler Master V Semi-Modular series.

XFX XTR is 170mm. So if 160mm is the (hard) limit then it is out. Some of their TS units are 140mm, I'd say the ones with 120mm fans. Others are 170mm, probably the ones with 135mm fans, but you might want to double check.

Antec TruePower Classic, Seasonic S12G are good cheap, non-modular PSUs which are less than 160mm deep.

You might want to look at this. It basically is a list of power supplies ranked from tier 1 to tier 4-5 I believe. Might make your choice a little easier.

Two short PSU series I know from Corsair; CX and CS. CX is bronze, CS is gold. Both have semi modular variants, and are 140mm long if I recall correctly.

    Re: PSU for Corsair 380T

Thanks all. Picking the PSU first is an interesting approach excalibur2 but as I said it's the case I'm after!

I'm seeing quite a few nasty reviews on the Corsair, CustardInc, even the CS series creating nasty noises after a few months and in (rare) cases completely going. Maybe it's rare enough not to worry but there's enough reports to push me away.

Good warranties are always a good sign, nice to see the cooler masters are short and modular. Thanks for the pointer D1DM - I think someone on PCPP briefly mentioned them too, not sure why I didn't get around to looking it up.

    Re: PSU for Corsair 380T

I have a Cooler Master V750S which is incredibly compact for its capacity, measuring only 140mm deep,. It also has a Gold efficiency rating, solid capacitors, only excellent reviews (that I've seen), is extremely quiet (in my rig) and is among the best priced units around for the quality on offer (where I live, anyway. YMMV). In short I'm very happy with it thus far, after around four months in I think.

The most useful part of that Tomshardware PSU tier list is the link to Realhardtechx. Which is more useful because it can help you find reviews for a PSU that you might be thinking about buying.
