    Thumbs up Topfield PVR (TF5800)

Over the past couple of months I've been looking into replacing my ageing freeview box (the Netgem iPlayer) with something that offers PVR functionality. After a lot of research and deliberation I settled on the Topfield TF5800 (not bothering with the new model which is due out in a month or two). It arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm suitably impressed!

The main thing I wanted was a box I could customise and tweak to suit my needs.. and this box really delivers, both from a custom firmware angle, and from user-written applications.

I'd heartily recommend it to anyone who wants a PVR for £200 which is highly configurable.

For more info on the box, and what I installed on it to make it supa-dupa I've written a short blog posting at Matt Collinge :: Endpoint

Does anyone else have one of these boxes without any of the funky applications installed? And if you do have one, am I missing a few user apps that I really NEED?

    Matt.

I love my Topfield and has given good service over the last four years. Never played around with funky apps though.
