Do Religious Door-to-Door people EVER visit predominantly Asian/Muslim housing areas?
I am fed up with having some form of religious personage or other knocking on my door. Tonight, Saturday night, at 6:25 pm I had two, dressed like prison guards, Church of Jesus badges on....
anyway...after I'd said "Good Night Gentlemen" and politely closed the door in their faces before they could utter anything sensible, in their American accents....it occured to me... Do they ever go knocking in the area's that are virtualy 100% populated by Asian family's? Or are they acutually too racist/scared? Because...in hind sight....while I see door knockers in other streets, as I drive through different area's, I dont think I've ever seen them in any high-percentage Asian area's. In fact....another question....DO muslim's go door knocking. I don't think they do, do they? Must be more confident in getting the Mosque full, than the "Look Up and Praise with your Tenner in Your Teeth" brigade are of filling the Church of St Andrew and His Holy Light Sabre. Any thoughts on these ....? It intrigues me |

Open the door, punch them in the face - it was God's will, they'll understand.

Its 6-5 to the Frogs at half time, you haven't got time to talk to the God squad!
And no, there are no door-to-door Muslims. People only ever knock your door trying to get you to be some form of Christian. You never answer to find someone saying 'Alright mate... ever considered being a Sikh? You get to carry a knife!1!!11!' Last edited by Stewart; 13-10-2007 at 07:49 PM.. |

Re: Do Religious Door-to-Door people EVER visit predominantly Asian/Muslim housing ar
I'd imagine that their thinking is that people who appear to be of the mainstream Catholic or Christian religions are a lot more likely to convert to their offshoot / specialist religion as its already up their street so to speak whereas in families that follow the Islamic, Hindu etc. faiths are more hardcore in their beliefs to even consider converting to a bastardised and essentially western religion.
Its an interesting topic to discuss as you'd think that the prime targets on the list for conversion would be followers of another religion like Islam for example, its hard to say really. I don't know where you live Zak, but in the part of London I live in, in my two years of living in Crystal Palace, there has only been one visit from the locl wackos, its been quiet round these parts ever since...thankfully

I've always thought of the 2 men going around asking the "Do you believe in Jesus" thing to be a sterotype. In the 11 years we have owned a house for we have not once had anyone around asking this.
Must be something to do with the Slayer, Reign in Blood poster you can see through the front window

Re: Do Religious Door-to-Door people EVER visit predominantly Asian/Muslim housing ar
I can't answer whether they go knocking in the area's that are mostly populated by Asians. I don't think there is such a zone around here (or perhaps I am just not aware). But I do know they have no issues with stopping Asians walking down the street.
In my opinion, if they make an exceptions of Asians, it wouldn't be out of of fright (I can't objectively think how Asians could be viewed as particularly scary to be honest) or racisms, but perhaps because they historically had more success with non-Asians? At the end of the day, they are taking their own time doing what they are doing. So it's not really of their interest to get the door shut in their face too often. |

I have a horrible feeling that Door to Door Religion Salemen are actually afraid of trying to spread the "word" if it's too hard.
So effectively..they're looking, like sales men, for an easy "sale" not to convert people....not realy. It made me quite angry tonight.....never thought of it before. |

Re: Do Religious Door-to-Door people EVER visit predominantly Asian/Muslim housing ar
As an aside 8-9 years ago I was living in a part of Stoke on Trent (Hanley actually) that was predominantly asian and when the local elections were on a leaflet was put through the door for the local BNP candidate. It must have been 30 seconds between me hearing the letterbox, reading the leaflet and opening the door to tell whomever it was to feck off... Only to find there was no-one there. To this day I don't know if:
a) They saw where they were and ran like the wind b) Someone else read the leaflet, killed them and disposed of their body / bodies in 30 seconds c) It was a targetted thing (as one of the few white households in an asian area) |

I suspect that the malignant forces of Protestant evangelicism may become more interested in Walthamstow over the next few years as they realise that there's now a rich lode of confused migrant Catlicks from Eastern Europe just looking to be ripped-off. Re: Do Religious Door-to-Door people EVER visit predominantly Asian/Muslim housing ar
I grew up in Walthamstow, and I would say its a fairly predominant asian area. And as an asian muslim family, we always had, (and still do whenever I go and visit my parents) get loads of religous guys knocking on the door.
Then when I used to live off green street in forest gate, still had a fair amount of religous people knocking on me door. So sorry that I've ruined your theory Zak... |

Interesting, I've lived in Walthamstow on-and-off for the past 17 years (probably over 10 of them actually in Walthamstow) and can't remember ever being harassed by god-botherers. Both the places I lived in are close to the High Street rather than the more upmarket areas further out, though.
