I'd say Bush has been decent; could have been better (i.e. Reagan or FDR), or much worse (i.e. Carter, Clinton). The early strategy for Iraq was pretty poor, but the current one seems to be working well enough. But the last thing we need to do is pull out right now.

As far as getting attacked, I don't worry about it at the moment...but the second some bonehead liberal pulls out (if it occurs in the near future), I will. And then I'll pray the fool who initiated the order gets hit by a truck.

Clinton, whilst i agree with you had an awful forriegn policy of seaminly not been involved whilst supporting israil, was an ecconomist, and quite a good one, the economoy had never been so strong, look at the EURUSD or GBPUSD.

now look at it after 8 years of bush. Taxes are often anoying, but i'd sooner be taxed 40% earning 100k rather than 20% earning 30k.

Religion will always be controversial...I don't understand why it has to be proclaimed (Jehovah's witnesses) or shunned by anyone. Isn't it supposed to be a personal belief? Everyone should think for themselves and not try to press their own ideas on other people. In the end people will think what they want to think...at least my stance!

Thinking what they want to think is faith.

Trying to make other people think it is religion.

.. and I'd rather be earning 100k and tax everyone else 20%. But you often have to settle for the next best available choice.

absolutely, but the reason for my analogy was because one president, who icnreased taxes, also presided over a peroid of amazing economic growth.

Now look at bush, where the dollar has fallen in value, and taxation hasn't decreased keeping pace. Get my point?

Clinton wasn't some Thatcher, but he was much better than bush. Funny how ecconomists (often viewed as evil capitalists) seam to always perform better than those who have a socialist messiah complex!

Re: Religion is ‘the new social evil’

Clinton did very little for the economy; the computer & Internet boom played a much bigger role. The president of the time could have been anyone from Trueman to Reagan to Bush Jr. and the results would have been much the same. Also, the economy started its slowdown before Clinton ever left office and long before whatever new policies Pres. Bush enacted ever took place.

Personally, I wouldn't mind higher taxes if it went to something worthwhile. I'm tired of seeing my money go to support lazy folks who just want to sit around the house and pop out kids rather than work. The money ought to go to the good of those who actually do their part to support their society, rather than feed off of it like a leech. Case in point: take all the money out of long-term welfare (except for the physically and mentally disabled; they can't help that they can't work) and use it to fix social security. When you've worked all your life and done your part, I believe you've earned something; besides, you've been paying into it your whole life. Just my two cents... ^_^

Religion is pretty silly though it would appear certian ones are significantly worse than others.

I find it very hard to believe that only 7% of wars were fueled by religion. Non only do you get different religions fighting each other, but also different branches of what are essentially the same religion.

people should be able to believe in whatever they want, be it christianity, Buddism or the ways of the Jedi............ as long as they dont stick it down others throats and adopt a tolerant attitude, no problem.

If a religion must be spread like a virus at the expense of others then those that preach that **** shiould be liquadised

^ ^ As an atheist I don't think that wars are solely caused by religion and I think that anyone who thinks that this is so, really ought to look into the wider aspects of whatever conflict they are interested in. I think it's lazy to do otherwise, however, the problem I find with religion is that is easily manipulated by people to justify conflict simply because the texts associated with the 3 main mono-theistic religions are so ambiguous and open to interpretation.

And this is the point about secularism. Secularism is not about subjugating religion, it's about ensuring that everyone has the personal right to believe whatever one wants without overriding the rights of the collective.

Re: Religion is ‘the new social evil’

I have always believed that religion is a form of control.

The problem being it was invented by people and people want power over others.

Many faiths, when you look back in history , has done horrendous things in the name of the 'faith'.

Religions offer such wisdom in how to live, if you view their teachings as fables then they have value.

Alas the meanings are often twisted to suit that of the preacher.
