    Build Ordered - Need Mointor

    BUILD:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i7 3930K Enthusiast Unlo
Asus Rampage IV Formula, Intel X79
    Corsair Obsidian Series 800D, Black
    2GB EVGA GTX 680, 28nm, PCIe 3.0
    8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance
    240GB OCZ Technology Vertex 3, 2.5"
    1TB Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda 7
1200W Corsair Pro Series Gold 1200A
    LiteOn IHOS104-06 4xBlu-ray, 8x DVD
    Corsair H100 Hydro Series Extreme

What do you guys think? I ordered this Friday. But now I need a monitor? It's purely for gaming such as the likes of Battlefield, Arma, Crysis, Etc. I've found this? Needs to be 3D and support 120hz at 1920x1080? I'm an enthusiast, so I've gone for a future proofing spec and I plan to incorporate an additional 680 soon but my main concern now is a half-decent monitor.

if you want to go "3d vision" then you'll need a 120hz monitor and add in the nvidia 3d vision kit as well

personally I'd avoid that monitor, because there's a lot of conflicting information (from acer) about it and no reviews that actually clear things up.

    here it's listed as 60hz http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/conte...l/ET.VG5HE.009
There's user reviews that claim these are passive not active monitors, which makes sense as hdmi 1.4 can only support 1080p at 60hz, which leads active 3d to be 1080p at 30z.
Not that there's anything wrong with passive 3d, personally I prefer it as I react badly to active 3d.

Active 3d works by sending 2 sets of 60hz images, left and right, alternately to make a single 120hz feed, the active glasses flicker, alternately blanking out one eye when the corresponding image is shown.
Passive 3d works by interlacing the 2 sets of 60hz images to make a single 60hz feed where the odd lines are going to one eye and the even lines going to the other eye, you then have a physical polarisation layer in front of the panel, this polarises the alternate lines, the lenses in the glasses are alternately polarised, so the light from one set of line is only seen by the correct eye.

both systems have advantages and disadvantages.

Don't forget to add in another £70-80 for the nvidia 3d kit

The AOC is supposed to be pretty good for a gaming 3d passive monitor http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-ao...1-250cs-m2-2ms

edit: The acer GR235H is fully compatible with nvidia 3d vision http://www.nvidia.com/object/optimiz...-monitors.html no need for 3d party drivers.
However any passive display should work you just need to use EDID override drivers, basically a set of monitor drivers that override the EDID information so that the nvidia drivers thinks it's a Acer or Zalman monitor

I won't be purchasing the Kit, 3D isn't a necessity. Just the 120hz and 1920x1080 resolution from a half-decent brand. I didn't mean to miss-lead you, sorry. But with that being said, do you think the monitor I outlined is suffice?

Re: Build Ordered - Need Mointor

I recently brought the Asus 27" 3D from scan and it is absolutely stunning, if you have the budget for it I would highly recommend it.

If your going to get a 3D monitor do not buy one without lightboost.

I had a benq monitor 2410T that was 3d and without lightboost the 3d was quite labourous as I had to raise the brightness of games etc to make them playable. Things like Metro 2033 forget it.

However with lightboost there is no difference between 2D and 3D. Totally worth it and please do not buy a 3D monitor without it, you will live to regret it.

Ahh ok, you originally said it needed to be 3d support so I assumed you where going for a 3d setup
for just a 120mhz monitor, then I think that samsung is your cheapest option.
