    SSD - I have a Samsung EVO 120GB.
I keep just the OS and small system files on it, with a 2TB storage drive for all my personal files, games, movies, music and so on.
    I'm very happy with it.

    GPU - With a 4770K, I imagine you'll be looking at something high-end?

Re: What gfx card and gpu would you guys recommend

How much are you thinking about spending?

What do you want from the GPU? ie gaming or serious applications etc...

If gaming what games will you be playing and what's the monitor resolution?

For serious applications, what apps will you be running?

nVidia GTX 780ti and Samsung 840 Pro would be two top end products that I would get (I do have that SSD) but it all depends on your budget. GTX 780 is on a sweet price/performance spot at the moment though. Can't recommend a 280x/290x as I went watercooling in the first place because I can't tolerate noise.

For an SSD, my first choice would be this:

    Closely followed by this:

My 280X is quieter than my case fans. Just do some research beforehand and don't buy one with a loud cooler if that's important to you - that applies to either GPU brand.

Most manufacturers use same sort of coolers for their nVidia and AMD cards ie. DCU2. The noise kicks in only when the GPU reaches higher temps during load and I'm sure you know more than anybody else which cards are renowned for running hot and that was my point

Re: What gfx card and gpu would you guys recommend

I know that there is a negligible difference, between similarly performing cards from either manufacturer? I'm aware the stock Hawaii coolers weren't brilliant, but the solution to that is simple - buy one with a decent cooler. The price difference has essentially disappeared now. It's an unfortunate stigma that won't seem to dissipate.

Temperature is not the same thing as heat - that's where the confusion seems to be regarding the stock-cooled Hawaii cards. Don't take my word for it, compare 290/780 or 290X/780Ti when they're using the same cooler. I'm not aware of any similar commotion over the other series?

Heat transfer can be measured in watts; temperature in degrees. For a given thermal resistance (e.g. heatsink capacity), and similar power draw, you'll end up with a similar temperature. 'Hot running' or 'cool running' processors is a bit of a misnomer, as temperature in this case is determined by the effectiveness of the heatsink.

As I said, I have first-hand experience of an MSI 280X, and I'm quite perceptive of noise.

How about the new Crucial M550? Seems like an improvement over the previous M500 series. Comparing the price performance ratio, the M550 is beating the 840 Pro (personally).

You can actually edit the thread title yourself if you want - edit the first post then click "go advanced" and there's options to change the thread title (and some other stuff)!

AFAIK most SSDs are much of a muchness nowadays in terms of performance and reliability - i.e. while there are measurable differences between different SSDs, in real world usage you won't notice them. Just pick one that's a reputable brand and a good deal

For out-and-out gaming (assuming this *is* a gaming rig) I think the best value choices for GPU are probably the GTX780 or a non-reference R9 290 (both around £320), but it does depend on your budget, what resolution/settings you want to use, and even what games you play. If you're only gaming at 1080p then a GTX770 or an R9 280X would be more than adequate, and they're a lot cheaper.

OTOH, it doesn't look like you're skimping on the budget anywhere else so you almost might as well go for the 780/290 just for balance.

I can heartily recommend the MSI GTX780 Lightning.
Bags of grunt anyway, being a 780, but with massive overclocking potential. I splashed out after an insurance payout and I'm so glad I did - I'm beating all my friends' benchmark scores by a LOT, without even trying and every single game in my library runs on maxed Ultra settings as smooth as silk!!

But the best part, as always, is the pritty pritty lights!!
