    New rig or upgrade?

Hello there, how is everyone doing?

I'm currently in the midst of pondering the new stage of my pc journey and there are a few options open to me which I'm considering and would appreciate opinion and insight!

At the moment this is my build:

    AMD APU A10 6800K Black Edition 4.4GHz
    Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI
    Kingston Hyper X 16GB 2400MHz DDR3
    MSI GTX 760 2GB GDDR5

which is housed inside a BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX case.

Now this has been a relatively good performing kit, and I can play the majority of games fine however i'm beginning to find new releases - Witcher, Dragon Age ect to struggle, with consistent fps drops to 15-20.

With FallOut 4 in the horizon, and the advent of 4K gaming - it seems like the perfect opportunity to do some upgrading. The question is, what precisely.

I've got roughly 800-1000 available to spend and there are a few options in mind.

A, maintain the board & cpu and upgrade the gpu - buy a 980 Ti

    B, new board - go for a 1150 mobo with a 4970K and a 970

    or C, go for a 2011-v3 mobo with a 5820k and a 970

Each have different price points of course, however with where I'm 'umming and ahing' is whether it's worth going for a 1150 socket or potentially future proofing my mobo with a 2011-v3 socket...

That being said, do I NEED to upgrade my whole rig for better game performance?

    Thanks guys!!

    Re: New rig or upgrade?

Your RAM is fine 16GB is plenty, my main concern is the CPU and the mobo. Those are what I'd upgrade no matter what definately Intel I7 with that budget. Futureproofing at the moment means upgrading to a X99 build and that means DDR4 RAM which it is expensive for 16GB though 8GB might do. When I looked into X99 builds a decent setup nice ASUS mobo for overclocking ease and a nice I7 with 16GB DDR4 RAM added up to a £1000 around which is just in your budget. My opinion would be to get the I7 4970K and a nice ASUS mobo and water cooling (corsair do a good closed loop cooler which requires no maintenance) so you can overclock without melting your mobo. Your GPU will maybe last another year so consider upgrading that at some point AMD GPU's get hot when playing for extensive demanding sessions. So Nvidia might be better in the long run if your worried about heat. For me i'd go with option B.

    Hope this helps.

I'd get the 980Ti and monitor the CPU. You may find it's fine, otherwise a 1150 i5 will be all you need. Going forward, the CPU is going to be taxed less so no need for a 6-core CPU and the associated costs that come with it.
