Hi, please rate the basic PC I built if you have nothing better to do with your time:

    CPU: Intel Pentium G3220 @ 3.00GHz

    RAM: 8GB DDR3

    MOBO: Asus H81M-plus

    GPU: Integrated

    Storage: ADATA SP600 60GB (OS)
    Crucial M500 480GB (files)

    Optical: Optiarc DVD +-RW

PSU: Don't remember brb gonna open it up

    OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Was for my dad for his business but he passed away a few months ago and I was working off a crummy old Samsung R780 laptop that ran super slow and could barely playback 720p. Obv the second hard SSD is a bit overkilly but I had it lieing around collecting dust. Main purpose is/was basic business, video playback & streaming, multiple tabs of facebook, allowing for the possibility of more intense use down the line. But no overclocking or gaming because I've never overclocked and am giving up (have given up?) gaming.

Hi, welcome to HEXUS, sorry to here about your Dad.

The machine looks a solid business capable machine, be interesting to see what PSU you used, it's an often overlooked item, and one where it is tempting to cut corners, but is the one component that, if it fails, can ruin your whole day!

    Aye, sorry for your loss.

The machine looks more than capable. Can always change the Pentium for an i5 (Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge) for around £40-50. RAM is fine (single or dual channel doesn't really matter these days and 8GB in capacity is sufficient also). Wouldn't change a thing in this PC. Maybe the PSU, depending how old it is (how many working hours it had). Or cooling, if the current one will become too loud - insufficient hardly but loud possibly.

G3220 is a Haswell chip and uses LGA1150 like the rest of the haswell range - hence the H81 motherboard. You'd need to swap the motherboard if you wanted to put an older i5 in it so it's likely to be more than £50, and unlikely to be worthwhile.

It makes a big difference in certain workloads. Gaming on the integrated graphics can easily see a 50% improvement from dual channel.

Buy an ex corprate i3/i5 sff on ebay ~100 quid.
Add in low profile graphics card (240/730 etc) - 40 quid.

Much more powerful machine for half the cost.
