Need pc build advice 500/600 budget

Hi guys , after a pc for some kids , all i have is an old ANTEC SONATA ELITE CASE and a monitor and some speakers so will need all the rest ie
Motherboard/cpu/memory/keyboard+mouse and probably a wireless card as i dont think the router is anywhere near where the pc will be and i think ethernet cables might not be routable to there.
The budget is 500/600 , thanks guys.
PS amd/intel does not matter , just want bang for buck and I will assemble it myself.

Don't go for wireless unless homeplugs don't work. I'm using these TP-Link homeplugs: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TL-PA8030P-...ywords=tp+link.

Another vote here for homeplug over wifi.

Noxvay's suggestion isn't bad, though that board needs DDR3 not DDR4.

I expect 240GB of SSD will be gone before you know it. My son at 14 has just been told to install Visual Studio for doing homework on, and for the first time is having a hard time staying in 500GB.

What games are the expect to be running on this? If it is just Minecraft and homework, then you can get away with something way cheaper.

Skylake i3 is a better all round choice than an FX 6300- yeah it costs more, but it uses less power and you can offset the price with a less expensive motherboard - Asus H110M mATX can be had for under £60 and supports M.2 and DDR4.

No need in blowing £90 on a Gold PSU for a budget build - 80Plus Bronze is more than sufficient.

I've included an SSD and a 1TB HDD, but you could forego one and buy a new chassis instead. Alternatively, you could ditch both and fit a 480GB SSD and stay on budget.

The RX480 is a good GPU but there isn't much between it and a 3GB GTX 1060. Needless to say, both are overkill if it's just a general purpose PC capable of a spot of light gaming, in which case you can really go to town and spend the GPU cost on a new case, monitor and peripherals.

re: Need pc build advice 500/600 budget

Do you need to include the cost of a Windows license in that budget?

    Low end gaming rig:

    £56 Athlon X4 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-...65w-cpu-retail
£60 Motherboard (USB 3.1, M.2 socket, 4 DIMM slots for future expansion) https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asro...-usb-type-aplu
    £103 480GB SSD https://www.scan.co.uk/products/480g...mb-s-7mm-black
    £100 RX460 GPU https://www.scan.co.uk/products/nda-...gpu-1210mhz-bo
    £51 8GB DDR3 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...0-9-27-xmp-15v
£55 Same PSU as above https://www.scan.co.uk/products/520w...et-fan-atx-psu

I make that £425 so far, and about on par with what my kids have. Add £80 for a Windows license?

Edit: AMD really need to get the AM4 platform out in the shops. I expect that is really what you want here.

I'm going to have to agree with Spreadie and suggest an Intel CPU rather than AMD at this point. AMD chips have been fantastic value but are really starting to show their age apart from in some very narrow scenarios, they really need to get Zen out! With an i3 there's also the potential to upgrade to an i5/i7 later on when second hand prices have dropped.

Perhaps drop the RX480 down to an RX470 4GB to accomodate wireless/keyboard/mouse. A 450w power supply would also do.

Budget sounds good to go with the i3-6100 for reasons previously mentioned alongside a £100-200 gpu. Thus, without going onto pcpartpicker myself, and without knowing more specifics, I like Spreadies' build.

You had nothing to say about spreadie having a graphics card in that list,so interesting how you are not questioning his inclusion of a card,or indeed anybody else talking about cards.

Funny how you only came to that realisation once I made a post here.

First question anybody here should be asking is WHAT games??

Does the OP even need a £200 card.

Sorry, what?? You looked at one build which had a £200 card and said it was OK,and then after that you told me "Not everyone's a gamer" once I asked for clarification what games they intended to play which was way after that and after the other post from the OP? Emm,really dude??

Its a basic question - its no point speccing a £200 card until we know what the OP is running. It could be LoL or MC which will run fine a RX460/GTX1050 or Deus Ex:Mankind Divided or GoW4 which are VRAM hogs and a 6GB/8GB card is preferable.

If they are playing a less intensive set of games,it would free up budget for maybe a bigger SSD,a Core i5 or even a more compact case(or all of them).
