CPU fan error! Hi there, I've had my scan PC a few weeks, running fine on standard and overclocked profiles. But I switched on my system this evening (in standard profile) to be greeted with a few beeps and the message "CPU fan error!". I opened up the case and saw that the fan on the CPU cooler (Akasa freedom tower) was spinning quite slowly - BIOS recorded it as just under 600rpm - so I assume this is what is causing the error. Naturally, the fan spins faster in the overclocked profile, and I don't get the error. So my questions are 1) Is the cpu fan speed supposed to drop below 600rpm, and how can I stop the error? and 2) Why has this error only just happened? I have run the system in the standard profile before with no error. Thanks in advance!

| I R Toff Pandi! | Re: CPU fan error! I'm presuming that the 3XS team won't mind me commenting in here... You can change the fan speed in the BIOS, you obviously know how to enter the BIOS as you have changed settings profiles. The exact area to alter the speeds will depend upon the board/BIOS, for example my board it is under H/W manager (from memory) And once in there you have the option to set the fan voltage via percentage ![]() You can also disable the beep and halt on error, but that is perhaps unwise... As to why it has just occurred, no idea, lots of things can cause it, micro powercuts used to affect my old board and change a few settings, but only very rarely Clickys: Post Counts and Other Rewards, Rules, Folding@Home, Fans: Push vs Pull vs Push-Pull, Corsair PSU OEMs. What it means to be fully human is to strive to live by ideas and ideals And not to measure your life by what you've attained in terms of your desires but Those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality... because in the end, the only way that we can measure the significance of our own lives Is by valuing the lives of others |

Re: CPU fan error! Hi Korda, Thanks for the response TakTak and we dont mind your help on this Depending on the board, the non overclock profile may have the fan speed set to Q-Fan and will try and adjust the speed due to the temperature of the CPU. If the fans are reduced lower then 600rpm then you will get the warning, you can disable this option in the BIOS. If you can PM me your Build number and Invoice number we can check the spec of your system. Regards Sanjay

Re: CPU fan error! Thanks for the replies. I guess I could fiddle with the BIOS to make it stop then, but I would rather not disable what is essentially a safety feature. So maybe altering the trigger for the warning to 500rpm would be preferable - if that's possible. I have no idea about altering the "fan voltage via percentage" - RPM would be much easier! - I'll check my BIOS for the options. Sanjay - I have sent a PM with the build and invoice numbers so you can check the spec. Thanks again.

Re: CPU fan error! Hi Korda The 600RPM limit is the design by Asus so disabling the warning is the only option, the system is designed that if the CPU gets too hot it will shut down anyway so no damage will be done Regards Ben
