Ello chaps !

Whilst being really happy with the new beastie up till 20 minutes ago, I think the SSD has died...

Came up with no boot device found, so looked in the BIOS and the SSD was not showing up. Set the BIOS to optimal defaults and tried again, still the same.

Took the side off and reseated all the cables and I booted into the BIOS, this time the SSD was visible, so I rebooted and it stuck at the Starting Windows logo (you know, that weird glowing flower thingy) for about 30 seconds, then a blank screen with a mouse icon and it stayed there, not doing a thing.

Reboot again and guess what ? The SSD has vanished once more in the BIOS. Rechecked cables again and it just repeated the above.

Dead SSD ? Will I need to send the whole PC back or can I just RMA the SSD ?

System works just fine with a Ubuntu Live CD - just no SSD of course

EDIT : on advice from another HEXITE I also swapped SATA cables just in case, still no luck.

Still waiting for Scan to respond to my phone call and email.

and now the RMA department are confirming that the SSD SATA connector is damaged and refuse point blank to replace under warranty.

Really REALLY disappointed in this conclusion. Although I had the funds to buy the PC a week or so ago, now Sally's job is in jeopardy I really cannot afford to do anything more so I'm stuck with a new PC with no SSD. I'm going to have to stick an old spare HDD in it and that defeats the entire object

OK, Im in the process of installing a spare HDD in the PC and the blue SATA cable, as supplied in the original build, the one that was wired to the SSD, will not fit my older SATA II drive.

Perhaps this is the cause of the damage.

Hi G8ina,

I have the drive with me now, there is slight physical damage to the power SATA connector.. however this shouldn't have caused the drive to fail in the way you described.

We are currently testing the drive, so far its detected first time and we are going to attempt installing windows onto it.

Hopefully it will show fault and although I cannot promise anything ill get in touch with Corsair about obtaining a replacement.

That's reassuring, I'll recommence with adding money to my 3XS build fund again.
