Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hey guys, I've just got my 2nd 3xs System and I have to say its bloody fantastic! Quiet as hell, and as my step dad said "something nasa would be proud of".
This is the first system i've ever used thats had a soundcard, but im having some issues, not problems just issues.
I'm using Windows 7 first of all and here is a brief overiew of some of the stats;
Silverstone case
Asus p6 mobo
plenty of ram
beast graphics card
demon processor (i7 920)
EDIT: Using the SoundBlaster X-FI Titantium sound card
What I want to do is play sound of games, movies, music (windows media player) through speakers by say using the rear jack. And hear Ventrilo (communication program) via my headset using the front jack's.
Keep in mind I am not using any USB connections, i'm using the standard green/pink audio jacks.
Anyhelp would be appreciated thanks.
PS: 5/5 for the system mates ;)
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hi Hezzy
You should be able to set the Rear audio to play through the speakers and the front mic jack to record
Goto Control Panel and Hardware & Sounds - Select Manage Audio Devices
Select the Microphone & set the Record option to Front Panel

Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Thats what it is at the moment! You see I normally do everything via headset, but i wanna start playing music and watching movies and not have to wear a headset to do it!
headset is set at front panel atm.
but i cant do it, theres only like one option if that makes sense?
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hi Hezzy
Can you use the problem steps recorder in Windows 7 and record the steps you are going through so we can see the options avalable to you on the system
To do this in the search box at the start button type the word Problem Steps Recorder
Select this from the list
Select the record button on the app and then go through the sound settings on your system , each step is recorded in a mhtml document press Stop Record upon completion you will be prompted to save the file as a zip file onto your system (make note of what you call it and where its saved), you can then email this file which will be ready zipped up to systemsupport@scan.co.uk use your Query Ref or Build number as the subject line
Windows 7 is not officially out till next month so we are still getting to grips with it but we think this new problem report tool is very handy and could make our diagnosis a lot easier :)

Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Well, thats handy, didnt notice that.
But im not sure its going to be much help if i donty know what im doing :D
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hi Hezzy
If you can just click on the various audio options this will be recorded to a Zip file which we can then have a look at for you :)

Ben
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hezzy,
In the audio options turn auto port sensing on (will be called something slightly different but you get the idea) and plug your speakers into the back of the system,
When you want to play a game, plug your headset in the front panel connectors, these will now be used for Input/Output, when you want to watch a movie just unplug the headset and the speakers will be used.
hmmm, just read what you asked correctly ill have a play about tonight, using the onboard sound for Vent and the sound card for the game might be a work around here............
Let me see what I can do :)
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
If they're both using 3mm jack plugs, could you not just buy a spliiter cable? When you don't want to use the speakers, just switch them off - the sound will always come out of the headphones but if you're not wearing them, you won't hear it. This is how I've got my current system set up (3 x 3mm splitters as both the headphones and speakers are 5.1).
Just re-read your post again. I've heard people doing similar before, and there's a lot of feedback from the speakers as the mic will pick up the in-game sound and send it to all when you voice transmit - you may find you get muted by your teammates.
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Well I dont want the inconvience of really switching between the two when ever i want to do something, id simply like to just use it.
This might help but, when ever i plug anything into the back, it doesnt really work, its almost as if the back jack's just arent registered. Only the front ones do!
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
What kind of speakers are they? Are they powered or are they just driven by the sound from the PC (ie no seperate volume control/ power switch)? Are they stereo/ 5.1? Have you plugeed them into the right socket on the X-Fi? The gold etching/ labels can make it hard to see. Is the onboard or the X-Fi powering the front socket?

They require independant power (not from computer). its a sub and 2 speakers.
Ive tried numerous sockets, like I said its almost as if the back jacks just arent working
Re: Sound through Speakers and Headset?
Hi Hezzy
Can you email the details of your system (Build Number/ Invoice Number) to systemsupport@scan.co.uk we are back in tomorrow and will look into this for you
Please confirm if any hardware has been added to the system and if you are using the soundcard that was supplied with the system in its original configuration
Off for sunday lunch now :)
