570 sli vs 680?

I suspect the GTX570 SLI will do better overall. OTH,GTX680 is a single card so you will have less issues with scaling IMHO.

I'd go for the GTX 680, 570 SLI will struggle at 1080P if you want to max games out such as BF3, My single overclocked 570 struggles with BF3 on Ultra as there simply isn't enough Vram. The GTX 680 is the ideal card to buy out of the two imho.

Don't forget that the GTX 680 has lower power consumption, PCI-E 3.0 support which is supposed to help with micro-stuttering with SLI setups and new v-synch technology as well as the H.264 encoder as well as better 3D vision performance.

Doesn't the GTX 680 do some sort of throttling depending how hot it is, Im sure I read the clock speed adjusts down if its to hot...is this a feature that can be turned off?... only my pc gets very warm inside and my room is very warm I was thinking of selling my GTX 580 to get a 680 but if the performance suffers because of the heat then it may not be worth it. On the other hand I may have misunderstood what I read.

Think of it more the other way around - if the card is kept cool then it can boost more. If it's hot then it simply runs at the non-boost speed all the time. See the temperature plot lower down on this page:

Just been reading the reviews on the 680 (reviews from people that actually bought one) low fps issues, and fps going up down like a yo-yo, probably the fancy new 'eco' technology on them, I'm sticking with my 3 way factory super-clocked 570's until the 700 series comes out, and all the problems have been ironed out.

I mean seriously people getting 30 fps in Metro 2033 with a 680? I get an average of 78, if you have an sli rig with top end 400 or 500 series gpu's stick with them.

I have a Zotac 570 Amp! I would consider selling before they drop in value too much to go towards the 680 if no problems are discovered.

570 Amp! very nice card, stick with that, the 680 has less memory bandwidth than GPU's brought out 4 years ago, think about that, the 680 may seem faster on paper, but it's an austerity card, Nvidia would've still made a profit if they sold it at £200...

I myself think the card is really aimed at the future consoles, a cheap to produce energy efficent card ideal for consoles, and is just being tested on pc users.

Unless, of course, you're using an X79 chipset motherboard with PCIe 3.0, which let's face it, the 680 was designed for, effectively doubling the memory speed to 512 bit, as opposed to the earlier 320 bit. On paper it's faster because it is, as long as you're using the latest technology with the latest technology. The PC industry has always been a catch-up or money pit situation as far as the consumer goes and there's no harm in trying to justify "last seasons fashions" but sadly (or not, depending on your situation), things move on...

The memory bandwidth is between the GPU chip and the GPU RAM.....the PCI-E bus has nothing to do with it.

Performance of the 680 is pretty much 590 or 570 sli, but no MS or scaling issues! The Nvidia 3d is so much better, so smooth even with AA on at 1080p, it's shocking vs even the GTX 580-590. Surround will even allow BF3 on all High no AA at very playable FPS at 1080px3 or very playable BF3 1080p 3d on ultra. And they run cold so cold they eject no heat when on windows desktop. Downside is the cost right now (especially vs the 7970).

So there are some stunning deals on the older cards but if you want surround-or 3d or just less issues 28 nm is the way to go.

The turbo boost and adaptive vsync features actually work and are rather good, not Junk like we all expected! Driver support has been awesome from day 1, even in 3d (which to be frank is a real surprise).
