    A long-time coming..... LG1710

Well, it seems that I've been a member here since 2006 - but I rarely visit the forums. However, now that I've chosen Scan to build me a new laptop, I might be here more often!

Fingers crossed for a swift, pain-free process.

It seems, however, that I chose my username poorly when I first came here - what a knacker!

welcome along! But watch out, you think you can handle it at first, think you're in control and will only post "now and then" and only when you want to. But be warned, before you know it you'll be posting daily in multiple threads on books, cars, tech speculation and whether the guy from the news is dying his beard.

That's a relief - I guess I'll try and nab one without ending up with a ridiculous name by mistake - I've seen how these things work!

So far Scan have been ok on the communication front which is a good thing. Call me picky, but when you fork over more than a grand to someone, you have high expectations!

I feel as if my previous message was premature...

    Re: A long-time coming..... LG1710

Well, it certainly was a long time coming. I should have named my thread differently - jinxed myself!

The laptop itself is lovely - fast, responsive and I think it looks great. Not as heavy as I thought it would be either. The noise is less than my cooling stand - which I haven't had to use for this laptop either. The benchmarks were very impressive - for the CPU benchmark, it was only a few points off the top processor for mobile units (even though it's the 4700 model) and the graphics are smooth and fast no matter what I throw at it (8970M) - FarCry 3 and Rome 2 looks incredible on High and 1920x1080, The matte screen let me play with an open windown directly behind me without many issues. The keyboard is great - responsive and more spacious than the photos make it look. I'm not sure Scan's photos on the site do it justice. If you want some proper photos done, Scan...

On the bad side, the X-Fi software has not been installed and my G500 mouse doesn't work with 8.1 at the moment - the former is Scan's oversight (maybe?), the latter is Logitech's. The former is puzzling, as it says X-Fi on the builder page, but there's no sign of it in my devices - I'll need to look into it more closely- I'm probably just missing something. I was too busy this weekend to do more than a cursory check. The latter... well, that's another story

The Scan experience has been somewhat less impressive, sadly - different stories from different people and when I was promised a morning delivery as part of making amends, it never happened. Happily, it wasn't too late. Quick to take payment, slower to respond to questions or even call back when they said they would!

Microsoft have just released an update for that particular issue in the last couple of days - which I found out looking for an answer to my problem!

No, my problem is that the left mouse button just stopped being recognised after a few hours use - swapping out the mouse or using the trackpad didn't help so I rebooted and, ever since, the G500 mouse button hasn't worked at all - the right-click and mouse movement is fine. If I plug the mouse in after booting, then it receives a permanent mouse-click - but click lock is off. Maybe the left-click is broken, but there are others with similar issues. I might just email Logitech support - they're pretty cool.
