    MSI GTX 970 fan problem

    Morning,

I have the same issue with my MSI Gtx970, intermittently and randomly one fan will start spinning at 100% and the other won't spin at all. I have however requested an RMA, 5 days ago, and referenced the MSI thread where they recommend returning the card under warranty to the supplier. I had two emails from Scan the day after I raised the RMA request containing odd suggestions for possible fixes (change the cables was one. Not sure if that meant the psu cables, which is impossible, or the displayport cable which would make no difference). Anyway, after the second email from scan, they just stopped responding, leaving my RMA request in limbo. I still don't know what's happening with it.

I'm in the same boat as Roddles as far as RMAing and testing goes, it's intermittent so it would be incredibly fortuitous if it happened to do the fan thing during an hour of Scan testing. If I took a video of it doing it while holding my driving licence next to it, wouldn't that be proof enough, alongside the MSI response? Or, even better, scan could just acknowledge the issue if they've seen it on another RMAed card and process my card for a replacement in good faith and customer service? After all I don't want a refund so they won't
lose money, I just want a working-as-it-should £300 graphics card.

    Thanks

Ps Is it okay, privacy - wise to post my RMA number here so Mark can check it out? Or should I PM it?

    jkvcs,

If you have not already been provided with a returns number please provide us with your query number and we will arrange this for you.

Scan will need to test the card, providing the fault is replicated the card will be replaced.

    Kind regards.

Re: MSI GTX 970 fan problem

Mick, thanks for the response, I had intended this post to be a reply to a separate thread on the same subject but I've apparently had finger trouble and posted a new thread!

I've had an email reply from Scan saying that I can return the card for a straight swap in the store. Scan and /or MSI think the problem is caused by the sticker on the fan so apparently no testing is required. I've not had a chance to get back to the store yet but you can mark this issue as closed from a Scan customer service perspective. Cheers
