Customer Service & Warranties, Upset Customer.

I have been a good long-standing customer with scan, never had any issues until today and been left with a very bitter taste in my mouth.
Last night my monitor failed to work, checked fuses etc and still no power. Unable to contact scan or DGM customer services until today to make enquires re this. I have since found out DGM (digimate) have ceased trading so the 3-year warranty is now useless.
Ironically I purchased this 27 DGM IPS-2701WPH IPS MONITOR on 10th December 2013 for £317.99 (invoice no 00E2151206), probably received 11th December 2013, fails on 12th December 2014. Scan customer services stated if it had been within 12 months from the purchase date they might have been able to help, but tough luck mate your a few days out. Cheers Scan for your continued support.
Scan might want to also consider informing customers who may purchase a DGM monitor still available on the site not to expect any warranty.

If DGM have ceased trading and it was sold with a 3 year warranty then as far as I am aware its down to Scan to honor the warranty?

Re: Customer Service & Warranties, Upset Customer.

I don't think you're right about the warranty Platinum.

However, irrespective of warranties, in the UK the goods you were sold do have to be fit for purpose & of merchantable quality. It's a matter of reasonable expectations. If you bought a high end monitor that one could expect to last 5-10 years & it failed just outside of a 12 month warranty, you might be able to successfully argue your case against the retailer, though you'd most likely have to go to the small claims court to do it.

Unfortunately, looking up this product, it seems it was a bargain basement way of getting a nice panel. The price & build quality reflect this. Any complaint would have to be directed at DGM & as they no longer exist, it seems, I'm afraid the OP is SOOL :-/

Perhaps worth adding is that if the retailer continued to claim there was a three year warranty after the company went bust & you had bought it /after/ this point, then you would have a claim against the retailer as they'd sold you a non-existent product. Not that I'm any more legally qualified than the average punter, I should point out. I imagine it might come down to whether the retailer could reasonably be expected to know the manufacturer had ceased trading.

Anyhow, /Scan/ might want to stop claiming DGM products have 3 year warranties now, assuming they are bust... DGM was Digimate Ltd & from http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk//w...essCompanyInfo they are indeed an ex-company, they are no more:

I have to disagree that £319.00 should be fobbed off as a bargain basement, I have to work many hours to earn that type of money.
I did not even have 12 months use of this since it was a Christmas gift and first powered up on the 25th December.

Re: Customer Service & Warranties, Upset Customer.

You could certainly try the small claims court, but I think it might be better to chalk it up to experience & maybe research prospective purchases a little more warily. It can happen to anyone. Sorry if I seemed to imply that the cost was not significant, I merely meant that for the quality of panel you bought, the price was low, suggesting the manufacturer might have cut corners elsewhere. A lot of their kit failed & much of that was due to power issues. There seem to be many Digimate customers in your position, sadly.

Generally, your contract of sale is with the retailer not the manufacturer, so it's down to whatever the Ts & Cs are in the smallprint.

But check in with Trading Standards, to ascertain exactly what your rights are in this instance. It's free and they will advise you on what you can do about it.
