    Stability issues with new hardware

I recently purchased a fairly large amount of upgrades for my system from Scan (via a company discount promotion at the company I work at, which I'm still grateful for! ):
New mobo (Asus Z97 Pro Gamer), CPU (Intel i7 4790k), GPU (GTX 980), 16 gigs of RAM (Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9) and a 0.5TB SSD (Crucial MX100 512GB SATA III) .

It has been going fine for just over a month, however I've recently started encountering some nasty stability issues, which are becoming more regular:
My OS is currently installed on the new SSD. I've been getting sporadic BSOD's which are always either KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR or CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, (the BSOD's get stuck at 0% generating minidumps), resetting the computer does not fix the issue as it no longer boots into Windows, goes into bios instead. Only a complete power down fixes it. Both of these blue screens either happen suddenly, or the computer begins to act very sluggishly and eventually completely freezes (mouse/keyboard no longer responds, task manager wont launch) before BSODing.

After doing some research on the BSOD's I believe I've narrowed the culprit down - either faulty RAM or a faulty SSD. I've followed it up by running chkdsk (No errors found), sfc /scannow which found some corrupted system files but was unable to fix them. I've also checked the SSD status with CrystalDiskInfo and SeaTools, neither of which could find any apparent issues (Though the drive is showing a large number of Reallocated Sector Counts and Current Pending Counts) with the drive. I've not been able to find time to run any tests on the RAM (i.e. memtest86), as I need my computer for work and can't afford to be out of action for a few days to run memtest on each stick. However I am still more inclined to believe its an SSD issue purely because it no longer boots into Windows after a crash (goes into bios) nor is it able to generate minidumps during the BSOD despite (to my knowledge) it being set up correctly to do so. For now I've went back to temporarily using my old SSD (reinstalled Windows to it) and old RAM that I know don't have issues along with with the other new hardware, and so far it seems to be stable again.

This is the first time anything major like this has happened to the point where I have to consider returning items so I'm naturally terrified I've just blown just under a couple of hundred quid
How does Scan handle returns? Do I need to post out the items, or does DPD or whoever pick up the items? Is it even possible for me to return an item after the month long DOA warranty? As I've been unable to rule out either the SSD or RAM, if it were possible to return both the RAM and the SSD and you were unable to reproduce any issues (knowing my luck you wouldn't!) what happens then? Do the items get sent back to me? Do I get charged?

Apologies for all the questions! But I would really appreciate some information or advice (Or even tech support if you believe theres something I haven't done yet that I can do on my end!)

    Cheers!

If the SSD is dying you should see error or warnings in the system event log. It's probably the controller that's dying which won't be seen by running a chkdsk, it will just crash all the time and make files corrupt. I had this once with a Corsair SSD.

It might be the controller, it could also be a driver issue but you would have work out whether it is a hardware or software issue, looking through you Event Viewer will allow you to see what error messages are being generated, google will help you decipher what they mean, or try posting the relevant texts from the errors on here and someone will be able to help with that. On a Windows 8.1 Desktop, hold Windows key and press X then load up the Event Viewer, if Critical events or Errors have been logged they will show here.

Post if you need help with this.

Re: Stability issues with new hardware

Thanks Mark + everyone for replies.

I'm unsure how to send a direct message, but my invoice number is 0002311490

Further update, I've run and completed memtest on the RAM (16 hours later ) and it reported no errors or issues with the RAM so I am fairly sure it's the SSD thats been causing the issues.

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I have passed your details over to a member of our support team and requested they give you a call to discuss the nature of the problems reported and is necessary raise a returns number for the return/testing of any components suspected to be at fault.

    Regards
