Using a 120mm fan with my 90i. Awesome is the word. Idle temps between 19 and 23. Well impressed with the Heatsink / Fan.

    Pob255,

Currently we have been told that we should have the Thermalright products by the end of November.

What fan is it koolpc? ideally looking for something with high air flow and not too noisey.
Currently running an ACf7p through a fan controller and it's the loudest think in my case unless I turn up my sharkoon 120mm powerfan.
I could use that Sflex 800 I bought off you but while it's slient (well I cannot hear it at max with everything else at min) it's air flow is pritty pants. might have a look at the 1200rpm version.
EDIT: ignore you answered me before

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90 heatsink - Likely ?

Or if you believe the manufacturers claims

Then a SilenX Ixtrema Pro IXP-74-14 moves 72 cfm of air at 14 dB compared to the Noctua NF-12 1200 moves 48 cfm of air at 17 dB

Which is a whole lot more air and quieter to boot!

But as with all claims from manufacturers these numbers need to be taken with a pinch of salt oh and the SilenX is probably a bit more expensive as well!

I was talking between the S-FLEX SFF21E 1200 rpm and Noctua NF-S12 1200 rpm, I know both, and I know which is the quieter of the two for the same money at Scan. But you're right, those are some claims for the SilenX Ixtrema Pro IXP-74-14 and something personally I'd have to see first hand to believe.

I choke on my wheaties already at £12 odd, £15 for the IXP-74-14 isn't that much more of a stretch, but for something you can't hear in a case already (Noctua - the Scythe is no slouch either) the extra wouldn't be worth it unless a) the manufacturers claims were bang on the money, and b) you were overclocking till the nose bleeds. The performance / price ratio balance is about right (if high) with the Noctua.

Well if I had to choose between the S-Flex and the Noctua I would go for the Noctua as well!

And yeah £15 a fan does seem expensive, so like you I would need to see some real performance increase in terms of temps to change to them and the manufacturers claims seem to be extra-ordinary which is why I put "the pinch of salt comment", if the fan really does move that much air you might end up with the air movement making more noise than the fan!

But equally in a crowded case the higher air flow would be beneficial after all I imagine that they (as in fan manufacturers) measure airflow unimpeded which will be completely different to the airflow you get in your case, for example pulling air into the case through a dust filter is harder work (higher pressure drop) than pulling air down a section of ducting this higher pressure drop will reduce the amount of air pushed/pulled. In fact a better measure of fan performance or an additional piece of information that would be useful for comparison would be the pressure drop generated by the fan.

Hmmm I seem to have rambled on... just read back that last paragraph and I think it makes sense at least to me, maybe I should see if I cant find some equipment at work to test some fans... must have an airflow meter and a couple of pressure transducers somewhere!
