    Feedback on Dane-Elec Celenade 2GB PC2-6400 CAS6 RAM

I have ordered some Dane-Elec Celenade 2GB PC2-6400 CAS6 RAM it is very cheap stuff £ 18.99 a stick ex VAT as available at Scan. I have heard stories that this RAM can't run at its rated speed and the auto RAM settings don't work properly.

Basically they are saying with this RAM in a PC it won't POST sometimes and you have to stick other stuff in to get it to BOOT then lower the settings and put the Dane-Elec stuff back in.

Is anybody here running with this stuff and what is your expierience, did it run ok on your board at up to its rated settings or not.

    Thanks.

So would I if money wasn't an issue, I`m going to try the stuff out and if it doesn't work properly I can return it within 7 days for a refund, I`ll only cost me £ 3 to send it back and I should get a full refund inc original postage costs.

If it works great I have saved some money if it doesn't I am £ 3 worse off and I can then order some better stuff, its worth £ 3 to try the stuff out.

We would not refund orginal postage costs if you were rejecting the item.

However you are welcome to reject the memory within 7 days.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah but if it doesn't work at its rated speed then you should refund the original postage costs as well, its not great biggie if you won't as I`m getting it from a competitor anyway as they only charge £ 3.69 for delivery and it would cost a fortune to order from you as I`m in Channel Islands which incurs a hefty surcharge, I`ve asked about geting this lowered before but its still high.

EDIT: and look at it this way if you had to replace the RAM as faulty it would cost you to return it - unless of course you tested it on a different motherboard and it worked OK, but I`m sure if I asked for a postal refund and you tested it and it didn't work OK you'd refund the postal costs

Our postage pricing reflects our costs from city link, if this means its expensive to order from scan I can only apologize.

If you’re willing to give it a try Id say go for it, more that likely it will work so happy days.

This unfortunately is were complications can arise, as it may work on other boards at its rated speed but not yours, does this make the memory faulty (a refund of postage would be offered) or just incompatible. Further more is this memory listed in your main board manual as compatible.

As stated it will more than likely work in which case bargin

PS, Im too stupid to quote properly
The competitor I`m geting it from isn't a big company like yourselves so they can pop stuff in royal mail 1st or 2nd class no problem, the other company I use are a big company whose prices are virtually the same as yours but they don't stock this RAM.

I usually buy most of my bits from them and they're Parcelforce Euro 48 delivery must be subsidised as they only charge up to £ 25 for a whole system in parts including case and PSU to the Channel Islands, others charge £ 44 for the same service + they have free delivery sometimes and you only pay the £ 10 CI surcharge during these times which is even more of a bargain. To be honest I don't know how they do it and stay afloat in these tough times what with the credit crunch.

As regards to the RAM it will most likely work and when I saw your company was also stocking it I was more confident it was OK stuff, I don't think you would knowlingly stock crap stuff.

    nlel

Thank you for the feedback regarding carriage charges.

At the moment we are not in a position to reduce carriage charges to Jersey (Searching the SCAN forums will bring up quite a few threads discussing this particular issue in detail)

Also can be said for Royal Mail, I can clarify we have short or long terms plans to use Royal Mail as a courier service for many reasons. Again searching the SCAN forums will bring up many threads also discussing this particular issue in detail.

If we have any updates with Jersey carriage charges we will update the forum.

    Best Regards

Do you know the full timing set and voltage rating?

Its CAS6 so it should be 6-6-6-18 and Voltage is quoted at 1.8v - 1.9v but up to 2.1v won't kill it.

EDIT: Recieved my 4x 2GB Dane-Elec Celenade PC2-6400 CAS6 this morning, as I say this stuff is £ 18.99 ex VAT at Scan. Took it round to my brother where he has been having some problems with some OCZ stuff bought from a competitor. He has an ABIT IP35 Pro motherboard.

Installed all 4 sticks gradually in the system testing with 3D Mark Vantage after doing so and my prelimenary results are that the RAM runs OK at 400x9 1.9v, it booted everytime at these settings and seems stable. As I don't need the RAM for a week or two brother is going to put it thru its paces and perhaps do a memtest so if they're are any problems I can reject it within 7 days, but I haven't any problems so far. Looks like I lucked out on this one.

    It's DDR2 so when it says 400MHz it's running at double that ie 400 x 2 = 800MHz, others run at 333 x 2 = 667 and 533 x 2 = 1066. Those are the DDR2 ram speeds and even higher ones but these are the norm.
