    HD 4670 Fan Problem

Got the Gigabyte version of this card delivered this morning from Scan.

Everything seems to be in order, except the fan speed.
It runs at 100% continuously, and therefore like a mini hairdryer!

Can anyone point me toward a fix, or is this a card fault ?

    Many thanks.

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

Are you using the drivers from the CD supplied or the newest ATi drivers?

I would recommend downloading the newer drivers as they have fixed a few issues with the fan speed within these and see if that fixes the issue.

    If this does not fix the issue you would need to log the problem with returns using the link below to request a RMA number ;

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

Thanks Lee and Paul, alas no joy.
Updated to the 8.10 drivers + Catalyst Control Centre, and no matter if I set the fan speed to 20 or 100, it still runs at 100%
Looks like this will be my first RMA.
My only concern is a replacement card will have the same issue.

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

    Kuzma,
Your card has a bios update at the Asus website, worth checking (New bios:9490.114.8.0.0.as04)
You should also update to the latest Drivers (8.10 + new CCC)

Seems like there are many Fan related problems with these cards. ATI release new drivers monthly, but that doesn`t help in the meantime.
Gigabyte don`t have any updated bios available, and driver updates have no effect on my card, so I`m having to RMA.

A fanspeed setting is included in the latest Catalyst Control Centre, yes
    Selectable between 20 - 100

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

Fan control is available for 4670 cards with the 8.10 drivers.
You need to update your CCC (as stated above) to see the fan controls in Overdrive.
But as you`ve installed a fan, it`s irrelevent

Hi, new user- just joined because no one else has commented on this problem yet.

Gigabyte 4670, just delivered this afternoon. Fan speed pegged at 100%, as with you guys. Reinstalling Vista 32-bit again, hoping I missed a step. Blenster, have you confirmed the 8.10's work on the GB card? I'll drop in a Zalman VF900 (replace the entire heatsink) as a last resort, but it would involve a casemod for me.

8.10 CCC fan control is adjusted only for 4xxx (4800) series graphic cards like 4850/4870
dont know why, but 4670 doesnt belong to that 4xxx group and thats why theres no fan control in latest CCC.

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

The 8.10`s with new CCC do open up the Fan Control settings in Overdrive with the GB card.
Having said that, they do not control the fan speed at all.
I think this is perculiar to the Gigabyte card though (maybe others)
I tried all the third party apps which allow fan control and none had any effect.
I took a look at the cards bios to see if there was any fan control settings..None!
Not surprising considering it`s not a reference card. So it seems that either the GB card has a faulty fan control system (bad temp. sensor?) on the card itself, or GB decided to run the fan at 100% ()
Nothing could wrestle fan control from the card.
I`d suggest you save £23 and the hassle of modding your case, and get a HD4670 with decent fan control. I`d highly recommend the PowerColor version, it`s fan is excellent. The quietest of all the 4670`s reviewed thus far.

    Re: HD 4670 Fan Problem

Hi,off top of head.2 or 3 wires to the fan.Think you need 3 for speed monitoring?(for normal, say case fan,4 i think for PWM)& some GFX card Fans seem to have just 2.

    Cheers BOB
