    700w fsp700-80gln

Hi am hoping to order this psu as my current does not seem to be able to cope with my system since I added a 4870. I just wanted to know what the 12v amp is on this psu is and what connections it has as details seem to be missing on you page.
Will this PSU be able to cope with a 4870 a duo core 6840 @ 3.2 gig dvd writter and 4 hdds. Would it also be able to handle a second 4870 if I decided to crossfire in the future.

As this psu is on offer at the moment a quick reply would be great

Took the risk and ordered anyway along with 4 gig of memory.

Had a slight issue with the order because of name differences between account and name on card but a quick phone call sorted this all out and I would like to thank the guy dealing with the issue who was very good.

Something to note, this PSU has very short cables. The 12v 4-Pin CPU connector barely reached from the bottom of a small tower to the top. The twin 6-Pin GFX connectors were about the same length. Even the 24-Pin ATX connector just reached the motherboard.

I dont need a Esp connector on my motherboard I am pretty sure its a Asus P5W DH Deluxe bit worried about the cable length though as I was hoping to get a A380 fairly soon

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

I didn't really have any problems with cable length, fitted my Thermaltake Soprano case with no problems and length was ok. The power cables are a little short I guess but nothing really drastic.

    FSP 700-80GLN
    The one I received had:
    Rating (700w)
    +3.3v (36A)
    +5v (30A)
    +12v (60A 15+15+15+15)
    Max 600W (12v)
    Max 155W (3.3+5v)

    (approx lengths)
    2x 2xSATA both @ 40cm + 15cm
    2x 2xmolex + 1xFDD @ 32cm +13cm + 13cm @ 26cm +13cm +13cm
    2x 1xPCIE 6 pin both @ 35cm
    1x main 24 pin (not splittable down to 20 pin) @ 35cm
    1x 4pin CPU @ 39cm
The leads are not modular nor mesh bound.

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

Got the memory and psu not had too much time to play with them yet but both seemed to work well. I did find the CPU cable and the 4 pin was a bit on the short side although they fitted ok with my current case but I was going to look into getting a larger case very soon probably something like the A380 but I fear that the length of the cables will not fit.

Still on the bright side of things the PSU does seem very good value for what I payed for it and is very quite can not say what the the amps are though as the warrenty sticker is stuck across the information.

Now I will have to look to see what other smaller cases are around though .

Oh just to note Scan was great in dealing with the order
    thanks

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

The tag was across my info too, I posted and asked if it was ok to relocate it!

I never had a prob with the cable lengths and like them being not too long, less to tidy away... but of course that may depend on your case/board layouts. I dont buy boards any more with the ATX or 4pin poorly placed as I dont like routing power cables over/around the ram or cpu fan!

There are inexpensive cable extenders for mobo cables and molex splitters will extend the drive connectors for a small price.

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

My motherboard is a P5W DH Delux http://www.asus.com/prog_content/mid...spx?model=1198 which does not have too bad a lay out it, I have not really made my mind up about which case I actually want yet but am a bit worried about going towards full tower cases. As long as the cable reaches then being shorter would be an advantage for the most part in keeping things nice and tidy.

I though you should be able to get cable extenders but when browsing could not spot them, guess I was looking in the wrong place.

Still early days but the PSU does seem rock solid and very quite especially compared to my old one.

does anyone know of a reason that this shouldn't power an ATI 4850X2?

Possibly because this has 2x 6-pin connectors, while the 4850x2 requires 1x 6-pin & 1x 8-pin? Some say a 6-pin to 8-pin cable converter will do, while others are against it (including some GPU manufacturers).

I personally wouldn't recommend you skinching on the PSU for this power-hungry GPU, & also seeing that you got the latter for free

Anyway, whatever you decide to do, enjoy the card & the gaming

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

Yer, and normally I wouldn't, but it was my understanding that FSP is a good brand of PSU and although converters aren't ideal, why do the manufacturers then supply them with the cards?
Thanks for you help though, I shall certainly enjoy the card, although it is fairly overkill for my gaming needs (RTCW:ET) and won't work with my MATLAB CUDA enabled project. Some people are never happy hey!
That said, anyone care to swap it for a similar spec'd Nvidia card?

    Re: 700w fsp700-80gln

I agree that FSP are a good brand, but I don't think this particular one is up to the 4850x2 - it might do, but having some leeway is a good thing with PSUs.

Yeah, why don't to sell the card or, part trade with some cash on top, for a lower-specced one?

    I'd be happy to, except I - (a) only have a 7900GTX, & (b) don't see you willing to part with the 4850x2 for a pittance!
