    Fallen into the EZcool trap

Unfortunately, I bought a 650w EZcool power supply for the PC I just built.

It was only when I installed a game today and heard the awful whining noise that I began to read up on EZcool and I've not turned my PC on since.

The noise (a whine that alters pitch suddenly depending on what's happening on screen) is almost painful to listen to and is enough for me to return the power supply but what I've read about EZcool is what scares me the most.

What I want to do is return it to Scan and pay the difference for a Corsair VX450W as replacement. Would this be possible?

Its an XFX HD 4870 XXX 1gb but the PSU is at the top of the case and the GPU is at the bottom. The noise definitely sounds like it's coming from the PSU at the top.

I found this video that shows the exact problem I'm having although it's with a different PSU.

I noticed it when scrolling in IE but it wasn't too bad but in STALKER: Clear Sky it was much worse to the point where hovering over an option in the menu would change the pitch of the noise drastically.

Edit: Apparently it's called "coil whine".

Making me think now as that sounds very similar, both the PSU and GFX card are near the bottom in his PC so i suppose it could be the PSU though its a corsair 650TX so i wouldn't expect it.

Did find this though and its very similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4d23...eature=related

Re: Fallen into the EZcool trap

Would I be better just ordering the Corsair PSU and then getting a normal refund for the EZcool?

I'd rather that than waiting for the EZcool to arrive at Scan, be tested, then having the Corsair be sent out as replacement and paying the difference.

    Thanks for helping.
