    Problems with the following

Interested to see if anyone has any opinions on this...
    I've got a relatively new EP43-DS3 mobo, 4gb ram and a q6700 processor running windows 7.
I've also got an ati radeon 4770 gfx card

I've been having problems since I installed the motherboard and the ram, so I'm fairly sure the processor is fine.
The RAM has been replaced already by the nice people at Scan, but I'm a bit confuzzled by the behaviour over the last 3 days. I'm getting crashed after about 5-10 mins of gameplay time, but can't really tell whether it's the motherboard of the gfx card.
I can try borrowing a gfx card from work, but I've got my doubts about the motherboard.
Ideally I'd just get a cheapo replacement motherboard, and send my gigabyte back to Scan for testing, or have any of you got some better ideas?

    Cheers
    Scott

    Re: Problems with the following

Is the memory running at the correct voltage as stated on the side of the modules and are the CAS latency timings correct ?

If they are, I would then advise in running mestest+ from www.memtest.org to see if the memory is faulty. If you get any errors when running memtest then this could be the cause of the lockups.

I can see that you have said that it crashes 5-10 minutes of gameplay. Is it only crashing only under 3D load? If this is happening, then the usual culprit of many of the causes of this are the PSU in that it can supply the power for the 2D lot, but when 3D kicks in the power requirements are higher which loads the PSU.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks Lee,
I've run memory tests and am not seeing any memory problems.
It was just happening in games, but is now happening while just running Chrome/Firefox - I've set the motherboard settings to match, and I've tried turning off all automatic overclocks of both memory and graphics, but that's having no effect.
It only goes wrong when running a 64-bit OS, so I'm tempted to go back to XP for a few days.

possibly then the ram has problem in the non addressed portion under win32.
win64 can address all 4gb hence you get errors.

or possibly memory controller (mobo) is at fault. check the NB voltage too

let memtest run for many passes, also try some of the stress testers under windows

    Re: Problems with the following

Lee has kindly provided a list of suitable replacement mobos, so I think I'm going to switch my allegiance back to acer or msi for a while and try to rma my gigabyte. made some progress, and followed instructions to manually tweak voltage setting, by dropping mch core by 0.1v as well as the ddr voltages, as there's significantly under what they should be.
AFAIC that's a bit iffy, and I no longer trust the mobo.
I'll order a replacement some time next week, and rma the board back to scan ... if it gets replaced, then the wife can have an upgraded pc for xmas
I know the RAM is good now, but it's easy to get replacement ram from the office. Not so easy to borrow a motherboard!
