Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

yeah of course! i want it to be future proof so im kinda going all out - hope it can last 4-5 years or so

EDIT: I have discovered that the 3XS custom systems arn't too different in terms of price and specs(once configured)
    http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1431
Think getting a 3XS might work out better.

Also a Question: Is the motherboard I've chosen overkill?

Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

I would start a thread in the hardware forum. However, for your purposes, the build is OTT and you are probably wasting a lot of your budget.

A Core i5,a far cheaper motherboard, and a GTX670 2GB or a HD7970 3GB would be better value for money choices.

The system you specced would not last much longer for significantly higher cost. In fact the money saved means you could probably upgrade bits after three years, meaning, you would have a much faster system after 4 to 5 years, then the system you specced after a similar time.

Ah ok that does make sense. Ill look into downgrading the specs.

    Thanks for your help

You could do with a lower consumption PSU. 750W would be more than enough.

A Quality 500w would be more than enough but I digress. People seem to go mad and waste tons of money on PSUs for no reason.

    Totally agree with CAT.
Get an I5 2500k or I5 3570K instead and in games you will get 90 - 99% of the performance for ~65% of the cost. Good value.
Get a GTX670 instead and you will get ~90% of the performance for 70% of the cost.
No need for a bonkers motherboard with just one GFX card.
No need for a bonkers PSU for any of the above.

Take the £hundreds your saving now and either spend it on a decent gaming keyboard/mouse/headset or save it ready for an upgrade in 2 or 3 years time. Job done.

I've agreed with CAT twice today. I suspect something could be wrong with the matrix :-)

Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

Your current build is overpriced and I wouldn't purchase it if I was you. You can look at the my suggested Builds (Build A & B) below. They better in terms of value for the performance you get with no significant loss in components quality.

    Differences between the Build A & B
Build A is has a lot more GPU power with 2 GTX 670s in SLI, along with a 1000W power supple to give you plenty of headroom for overclocking and upgrades in the future. Meanwhile Build B has less GPU but its a lot cheaper, along with a 720W power supply again to give you plenty of headroom for overclocking and upgrades in the future.

    Recommendation
Look in to both GTX 670 and GTX 670 SLI reviews and see if the additional performance is worth the extra £366 pounds or so. Make sure you pay particular attention to the games you play.
For 1080p at 60hz gaming in most games a single GTX 670 should be enough. However, if you are thinking about getting a new monitor with higher resolution or support for 120hz then the GTX 670 will prove its worth.
Then again the you can just save £366 now and buy a GTX 970 2-3 years down the line

Good Luck with your choice and make sure you look out for Scan Today Only deals, this could help you save some cash.

    ADJUSTMENTS:
    Take the 256GB Crucial RealSSD M4, 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s SSD, MLC-Flash, 500Mb/s, Write 260Mb/s *New Version £167.10
Its cheaper and works perfectly fine. You won't be needing the SLIM version as far as I know

P.S sorry for 3 posts in the same thread but I need to get enough posts for links

Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

Build A (Insane Gaming Build)-This one is a lot better than the one you suggested and Build B, its prices a bit higher but is packed with extreme GPU power.

Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

Build B (Good Enough Gaming Build)-This one is the cheapest option and should be enough for gaming at 1080p for majority of the games at max settings. However, it will last less than Build A. I recommend either Build A or Build.

    Power Supply
750W PSU, Antec HCP-750 GB High Current PRO 92% Eff', 80 PLUS Gold, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX v2.3

The boot drive could also be a Samsung 830 256GB, I heard they were going for £140 (In the notebook upgrade kit) You would have to buy an adapter but then again you would with the Crucial.

Re: Doing a system check. Is it ok to hit checkout?

Thanks for all your help guys, I decided to buy a 3XS system (was going to get a OC bundle but a 3XS is almost the same just with case, warranty, neat cabling etc.)
I got the 3XS Z77 Vengeance OC system for the added benefit of having it overclocked (which i don't want to screw up myself)

I went for the 680 as it was only £60 extra from the 670 - I also opted for better psu because in 3-4 years time i can easily add another 680 if needed.

Money wasn't that much of an issue as I tend to keep my system for a long time and can't keep upgrading every 3 years. My custom Q6600 and 8800gt SLi system has lasted 6 years! i almost killed it while trying to OC it, and i have broken one 8800gt gfx card so 1 card alone isn't enough to run games.

p.s. the Samsung 830 256GB seems like a great deal might pick on up for my brothers pc.

p.s. Thanks Fyter for the recommended builds, its too late for me but a mate might will be interested
