    And another order

    Hey Scan,

Just placed an order for a 7850 with you guys. THanks for helpful dealing over phone during initial request and subsequent paranoid check up call from yours truly (Lee dealt).

Look forward to getting it. Was a little freaked out at the size of my previous order list. Tech addiction creeps up on you, it seems.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Re: And another order

    OK, I've got a problem.

    I started a thread here http://forums.hexus.net/graphics-car...u-problem.html

    I thought it had resolved.

It's just happened twice during a play of Far Cry 3. One was a 10 - 15 minute game. The other one was only a 5 minute game.

What happens is this: I have two monitors, an LG IPS 23 inch main display, which I run at 1920 x 1080 over HDMI and a smaller Samsung Sync Master which I run at 1280 x 1024 on DVI/ VGA. The smaller display does NOT show the game.

I start the game. It starts fine. Temps seem to be fine, below 60 degrees. I have a temp monitor and CCC open on the secondary screen. I'll be playing the game, be it Crysis or Far Cry 3 or Dead Island, and it'll be playing fine, no stuttering or anything, when suddenly BOTH screens will go black. There;s no flickering warning or anything, they both just suddenly go black. The HDMI LG monitor says "entering power saver mode" or similar, which is what it does when I shut down but, and this is important, the machine does NOT shut down. The two character indicator on teh mobo continues to say FF (fine), no fan speeds change, there's no indication that anything has stopped with the system, but I cannot wake the monitor up. I've tried Ctrl-shift-delete to see if that brings up task manager, I've tried turning the monitor off and on again, nothing wakes it up, so I have to do a reset or forced system power down.

I've tried reinstalling the most up to date AMD drivers direct from the website. I've had to reinstall windows as one of the forced restarts corrupted winload.exe, so that would have purged any old Nvidia drivers.

Bit upset: I'd been waiting for ages to get this card.

Any ideas/ help/ pointers? If I can run anything to help you identify a problem, let me know.

    THanks

    Rob

    Re: And another order

Try the card on a different system if that is at all possible for you, that will tell you for sure whether the problem is the card, or a failing PSU or motherboard etc.

If it happens on the second system too, then scan should be able to RMA it for you without issue as you will have tested everything.

    Re: And another order

    THanks Hesham.

Not really an option, I'm afraid.

I'm wondering about my PSU now... it's a Corsair 650 modular, but it's an older model, with the red sticker.

It doesn't seem to cause problems when not under gaming load. I've left it on overnight torrenting on one occassion and defraging a storage drive on another, and it was working fine the next morning.
