9600GSO Worth Buying? My friend is after a mid-range graphics card, something like a 9600GT or Radeon 4670. Is this card worth considering? I hear the 9600GSO is a good card but this is the 512MB, 128-bit version. Thanks

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? BTW which one would you buy? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB...-DL-DVI-I-HDMI or http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512Mb...e-HD-4670-DDR3 I know they're both the same in terms of performance but does one have a better cooler/power consumption? Thanks again

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? I think one has a centrifugal fan, the other one has an axial fan but I can't find any comparisons on the net. I'd assume the axial fan would be quieter?

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? I'd go with the Gigabyte purely cause I like Gigabyte stuff. What about a tenner more for a 1GB GDDR3 version with a nice dual slot cooler? http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...ml?HIS-4670Q1# tbh, HD4850's start at £70 now, horses for courses, but better value for the average gamer imo. That should confuse things nicely anyway.

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? The 4670 has the advantage of being the smaller, cooler, cheaper card though. Swings & roundabouts, i think System as shown, plus: Akasa 965 HSF. Griffin Powermate that pulsates blue! Solid oak computer desk. Diamondback Razor. Logitech media keyboard. Western Dig HD Media Player. An AC-S1 R2 on the 3870. Netgear DG834N router. Acer Aspire One netbook. Creative I-Trigue 3450 driven by an Audigy 2. External 160GB and 500GB hard drives. 1 happy me. 1 not so happy me's wife. My Hexus Trust

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? The 9600GSO the OP linked too is a 96 shader version but unusually has 128 bit memory access as opposed to the 192 bit memory access these particular versions. It also uses slower GDDR2. The newer version of the 9600GSO has 48 shaders and 256 bit memory access as it is based on the 9600gt and not the 8800gt/9800gt the old cards were based on. It costs around £50 and I have linked to a review in this thread: Finally a 48 stream processor 9600GSO review!! Baltar's quote of the day:"All we need is strength! Strength that comes from within! .....and guns! More guns! Bigger guns! Better guns! And when we have those, we will win!" Moose counter-quote of the day:"[Moose] can fly and [moose] can land,Just not very well."

Re: 9600GSO Worth Buying? Sorry for not replying earlier. I think my friend is happy with the price of the 4670 and doesn't really want to spend more. Thanks for all your help!
