Logitech MX 518, one of the best mice ever made, puts a lot of modern laser mice to shame.

I have heard lots of good things about the MX518, I have the Razer Diamondback (regular and 3g version, the 3g was free but has stopped working right) and it reportedly has the exact same lazer and i've been very pleased with it. The side buttons are in a much better place on the MX518 too but if you're left handed then lots of the Razer mice are ambidextrous.

Tbh the difference between the 3g and standard diamondback is insignificant, they use a different software package but it looks identical and has the same features and as for tracking I've seen no difference.

There's also several cheaper 1600dpi mice on Play.com Gigabyte and Saitek (Hopefully only cheaper because they are relative newcomers to mice and not an indication of quality). And Amazon has the 3200 dpi a4-tech x-748k which has had no proper reviews but a few word of mouth comments suggest it's good.

Too many options really, I would suggest that a non ambi-dextrous mouse is better as it means the side buttons can be better placed as many ambi ones have to be as balanced as possible and end up being a little awkward for it.

+1 for the Logitech MX518. I have one and it's cheap, cheerful and works well. I love the on-the-fly dpi adjustment.

    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

This has basic dpi switching (800 - 1600) and it's brilliant. Been using it for ages now and it's still like new

Don't let the price put you off thinking it's a cheapy it's nothing of the sort really, it is very light however so if you like a little weight in your hand (hope SIM's not around) then this might not be for you.

You can get the Logitech G5 for £29.99 delivered:

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/778574...e/Product.html

I consider it a better mouse than the MX518. It has adjustable weight,a better sensor and the textured coating is really useful too.

After owning a Razer, Logitech mice just don't do it for me. I hated the textured coating of the G5, it was unusable for games, and I don't need a heavy mouse, if anything I like them light. still, each to their own. My original Diamondback is still going strong after 3 years.

I actually like the textured coating on the G5 TBH, as it makes the mouse less likely to slip especially if someone has sweaty hands (luckily not me). Also I cannot stand a light mouse in general and prefer a bit of weight to them. Had no issues in games too. I used an MX1000 before which is a fabulous mouse until I damaged the charger!! I also had the Logitech cordless MouseMan before then and have an LX7 and V150 too!

They have all done their job well.

I could hardly keep my hand on the G5 for it slipping off, the texture coating was much slipperier than my shiny razer, which makes no sense. It got to the stage where I had to hold my fingers in a painfully uncomfortable position to hold my hand on the mouse. I was not at all impressed.

    It's cheap, but I love my A4Tech X7.

Has 2 buttons on the side, a triple fire click on the LMB and a button in the middle to change sensitivity.
