DVD Storage Hello all, I am about to purchase a 100 DVD spindle, and was wondering what are the various cheap ways I can store my DVDs? I was thinking of going with the individual paper wallets, or using a big wallet that contains many sockets. Which one do you think I should use? Is there a specific place where anyone purchases their wallets from that is very cheap? I don't want to spend much at all because this is the first time I am doing this and don't want to use money incorrectly. Can anyone help? Thanks Varmint

Re: DVD Storage You want an easy way to store 100 DVDs? I would definitely go with the wallet. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46050 Something like that perhaps? Keeps them all in good condition, easy access and saves on space.

Re: DVD Storage There's a HUGE range of options, and my recommendation of what to get would depend on several factors, including :- - budget - what you're doing with the discs - how many more you're likely to end up getting. How frequently will you need to access an individual disc? If the discs are for archive purposes, and access is infrequent, then one option is to store them in the spindle pack they came in. Cost = £0, but getting at disc 79, for instance, will be a pain, and you'll probably want to keep a list of what is on what disc to be able to find it again. If your use is such where you want fast random access to any given disc, well, you can get wallets for anything from 10 discs or so, up to two or three hundred. I have one that takes about 240 discs, is heavy duty, zipped, but cost about £25. Alternatively, you can get aluminium hard cases that'll take up to 1000, or more. Another option is individual plastic or paper wallets, and keep them in a big pile. Yet another option is inserts either for lever-arch files or suspension hangers for a filing cabinet. Alternatively, you can get DVD cases similar to the ones you buy movie DVDs in. I have dozens of these, ranging from single/double disc cases, up to thicker cases holding a dozen discs. They might be suitable, fort instance, for keeping entire seasons of a TV series in one case, if that's what you're doing. I use most of the above for different purposes. My method for storing long-term data archives (spindles) is different from backups (12-disc DVD cases), which is different from client data (suspension files), which is different from my photo library (lever arch). I even have a nifty plastic "card-index" type file. There's an index card on the front, and a slider. I set the slider to the relevant disc number and open the case and the relevant dis is automatically picked out for me. I can't suggest what to use, without having more idea of what you'll use it for. Noli nothis permittere te terere. ![]()

Re: DVD Storage Personally I am a fan of lever arch cases as you easily reorder them also you can take a page out if you want to use those DVDs for a while. If your not going to use the data much if ever get the biggest you can, for pratical use 200 a comfortable maximum. As Saracen suggest DVD spindles give you the highest density however are a pain to find the right DVD.

Re: DVD Storage The last wallet I got from SVP was the Amps 240 disc one. Previous 240 disc wallets I'd got from them were really tough but this was like a PVC covered standard A4 ring binder with 10 micron thick sleeves. When I was about 200 discs in, the thing sprung open and wouldn't take any more discs. Not bad for £5.32 but you get what u pay for.
