Been holding off on building a HTPC for 2 years....then I saw a review for this board......

Curse the availability of them though! They are showing on a number of European e-tailers, just no where in the UK that I can see yet

Like you I've been putting off a HTPC build for around 2 years, it's one thing or another.

The 9300 boards are better still.

All the comparisons I have seen so far puts the 785G boards ahead in everything but 2 areas......

1. LPCM audio output (which this board fixes, I presume with an additional audio chip - VIA VT1828S/VT2020)

2. Power draw (which is ~6W different, which i am not going to lose sleep over and seems a fair trade for the extra performance)

Ditto, although I am an Intel man at the moment and probably put in something like the HD4670, would there be the need for the 9300/9400 chipset motherboards then?

I beleive not, have seen some stuff on AVS that makes it sound as if the 4670 cards can be used for audio and video.

I have been looking for the lowest heat output possible though, I want this box to be near-silent.....and that meant no add-in cards if I can help it

Still undecided, I think I will wait at least until the Asus board is available before making a choice (even if that choice is to carry on waiting )

I have a 4670 card, although you can get audio and video, it is only through the hdmi input, (not sure if there are any without hdmi inputs)

I bought a Palit 4670 super 512mb, it's a double slot card that fit into my HTPC no probs, fairly quiet but, there is no power connecter on the board, this kinda swayed me to this card as I only have have a 250w psu in the pc under the TV

Being swayed by the 9400 based boards now, although again, who has stock of the mATX variants?

Anything that's mATX and feature packed its pricey, talk about a slap in the face.

Nah, the mATX stuff in general is fine.

Its the ITX stuff thats pricey (the only form factor I can find 9300/9400 based board available in).

And general availability of the best HTPC boards in the UK is non-existant.
