Looking for the perfect Netbook / Mini-Notebook

I love the idea of netbooks, being cheap, ultimately portable, long battery life, wifi enabled and just asking for a 3G dongle so you can browse at a cafe or on the train. Problem is, as a hardware enthusiast I just can't accept the underpowered Atom and related chipset as sufficient horsepower (especially when I read that they can't even run standard HD flash content like iPlayerHD and Youtube HD). Probably, my needs are a step up from what the typical netbook user has in mind, but I'd like the idea of an ultra-portable computer.

Does anyone know a good alternative to the standard Atom 1.6Ghz, 1Gig ram, 120gig Hdisk identi-clone netbook?

    Camera: Nikon D700, Sigma 24-70mm F2.8, Sigma 30mm F1.4, Sigma 18-200mm OS, Tokina 12-24mm F4, Nikon 50mm F1.8

Re: Looking for the perfect Netbook / Mini-Notebook

So, have switched to looking for an ultra-portable notebook. For under £500 I found the following:
    http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung...?refs=51500000

Seems to roughly fit the bill, like the idea of having a proper cpu... and small enough to carry around like a netbook but should have enough grunt run Win7 fine and your usual programs. No idea of battery life though.

Anyone know anything else that might be better than this?

It has the horsepower, just not the gpu decoding skill, wait for the Lenovo 12" to come out as that will be able to playback full 1080p content over hdmi as it's ion

theres the amd congo platform with the acer ferari one comes under £400 and there should be more ocming in, ion platform will start coming into the market too, alternatively you can look at small notebooks ie those that have screen size less then 13.3" there are plenty out there.
