| lga 775 obsolete? General perception of recent reviews on the net and forum advice seems to be - introduction Intel i5 means core 2 quad (lga 775) is obsolete / coming to an end. Get the i5 given the price point it makes no sense to buy core 2 quad. Core 2's will see drop in price given i5 & i7 introduction. Still a bargain to be had for less intensive user at the budget end? | Resident Tit | Re: lga 775 obsolete? What you said seems pretty much correct. Unless you need all four cores(for video editing and suchlike) the dual core series is a massive bargain for what it is now. Now i just can't wait to try Windows 7 and get rrid of Vista once and for all. |

| Re: lga 775 obsolete? i3 are dual core LGA1156, some will have integrated Intel VGA too. They are not simply rebranded Core2 because LGA1156 CPUs will have on-die memory controller with the Core2 does not. |

The advantages of Nehalem are improved SSE - so if you're doing video encoding there can be a sizeable advantage. Slightly better virtualisation. Higher clocks and auto boosting of clocks. Also, lower power consumption in many cases. I don't reckon it's worth upgrading until the generation after Nehalem. There'll be less heat and a bit more speed. If you find something cheap, go for it. If the price/performance is on parity, go for the newer generation. PK |

| Re: lga 775 obsolete? Umm not quite, that artical is a little old AFAIK the i3 is going to be socket 1156 but it will need new chipset with prefix H (eg H55) It's a dual core 32nm chip with a 2nd 45nm gpu next to it under the heat spreader Also going to have hyper threading so it's a virtual quad core. Under the heat spreader ![]() http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15305/1/ http://translate.google.com/translat...istory_state0= What this all means is the yes 775 is going to be phased out, it's not dead yet but it will be replaced or relegated to the budget market, the Pentium name is going to continue for a little while on 775 aka the bargin-bucket-build Is now FINISHED |
