How good are these from a GTS 250 and do they take an AC S1 ?
The HD5850 1GB is faster than a GTX285 and an HD4890. It is also faster than a GTX460 1GB and HD6850 1GB at stock clockspeeds.
The second revision of the Accelero S1 does not seem to fit the HD5850 1GB and HD5830 1GB:

However,the HD6850 1GB and HD6870 1GB seem to be supported.
The HD5850 1GB looks like it has the following cooler:

The HD5830 1GB cards tend to use HD5870 1GB PCBs and the cooler looks like the one on this HD6870 1GB:

Damn, will have to get HD6850 then! Silence is a big factor for me
Thats a lovely price for a 5850. Shame I recently added another to my system for Crossfire for nigh on £200... I havent checked Anandtech Bench for 5850CF vs Newer GPUs but for the money its good value, if you already have decent airflow and PSU.
CAT, since you a pro on these cards, how many PCIE power cables need to be connected to the 5830 and the 5850 ?
TBH,the HD5850 1GB could probably run off a single PCI-E power connector if ATI wanted to really implement it! It is rated nominally at 151W. The HD6850 1GB is nominally rated at 127W but is a slower card.
The HD5850 1GB is between an HD4850 and HD4870 at load if you look at many reviews. In some it is rated as around the same as an HD4850 and others a bit below an HD4870.
At idle the HD5850 has around the same power consumption as an HD6850 or an HD6870.
Edit!!
The GTS250 is nominally rated at 150W.
It looks like the HD5850 1GB has a shorter PCB:

It seems the price will go up after today.
