DVD Recorder with HDD or Sky Plus?

What have other people got?

I have a Sky Package which includes Sports. I have had the package for 3 years.

I know I could probably get some kind of deal for Sky Plus.

My other Option would be to go for a DVD Recorder with a HDD.

I have looked at the Liteon 4045, Phillips HDRW720 and Pioneer DVR433.

Just got sky plus for my parents downstairs and multiroom upstairs.

If you're going to upgrade, tell them you saw the offer on their website where you get it for £99.99 + they'll credit £50 back to your next bill. That's because new customers get it for £49.99.

Sky+ costs £10 a month, or £15 if you're taking up an additonal package like sports (like you) or movies.

New sky+ boxes have 80GB (40hrs recording time) so you rarely need to backup to DVDR, though this apparently isn't a problem. Haven't worked out automatic scheduling on my old sky box however...

Sky+ DOESNT cost £15 per month just because you have sports.

If you have 2 or more premium channels, that could be sports 1 and 3 for example then there is no fee for having Sky+.

??? I meant that if you have sky sports or sky movies the TOTAL was £15 & no charge for sky+ - you're basically getting sky plus for £10 a month and your selected package for £5

Anyway - just looked at the sky premium channels bundles and you get sports 1,2,3 & extra for the £15 a month. Tesla, you might be on an old package, check it out!

Movies is sky movies 1 & 2, sky cinema & disney.

Sky+ all the way, then get a cheap DVD recorder to archive stuff to.

If you move to sky+ now its only £49 quid for the install and you'll get a PVR3 (with a 160GB hard drive - although only 80GB is useable for TV recording - the other half has been reserved by Sky for who knows what)

The EPG with sky+ is great - really changes the way you watch TV.

And to reiterate, the posters above are correct. Sky+ sub is £10 per month, but free if you subscribe to 2 premium channels.

How intutitive is SKY Plus. Ive seen the pause and restart options, whats it like to record things in the future?

Still a little unsure, but Sky looks the main option i'll go for..

As far as I am aware SKY Plus is £49 with free Installation but I have to get Sky Multiroom and pay an extra £10 a month for Sky Multiroom. (Has its benefits but gonna cost £120 for a year,Dont know how long I have to have multiroom for.).

If I just want SKY Plus and not pay any extra I have to pay £199 plus £60 installation but if I did that I could have the SKY Plus 160 for no extra cost.

Hmm might just Sky a ring, I'm on a half price Sky Sports at the moment due to threatening to cancel my subscription.

It's easy. You go into the tv guide and chose the programe you want, and then instead of pressing select to set a reminder, you press the record button and the box will record the programe when it comes on. You can setup series links if you like, but it does not always work. As far as I know, there is no limit to the number of events you can have set to record.

The only time you have to do manual recordings (Channel, start time, end time) is for radio stations, but hardly anyone does that much.
