UK isn't using the Euro (yet), thankfully Britain and UK are the same place, so it's the same thing - you say tomato, I say ketchup. Quid/squid are slang for pound

am i right in assuming you ain't from round these parts evildoc?

euros = european" currency - used by some (but not all) the member countries of the european union (or EU for short)

Countries using the euro are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain

here's the fun bit tho, britain / UK (whichever u prefer to call us) IS a member of the european union, BUT - we don't use the euro, we've stuck with our own currency, the pound

british pounds, uK pounds, GBP, pounds sterling etc - if its got pound in it, its generally britain / UK

other european union countries which have not adopted the euro as their currency are Denmark, Greece, and Sweden

and you're correct on the quid - its a slang term for a pound, in much then same way that buck is used in the US

    hope this is of use

NB - this is from memory, so in case you are basing your homework answers on this or something like that, i'd strongly advise double-checking it mate!

unfortuanlty some shops in the UK are taking euros as payment aswell, which can only attract more tourists etc.. luckly thought the shop i work doesnt, which i know because theres been a euro coin sitting on the main tillpoint for 2 weeks :O usually thats where 1p's go when the customer doesnt want there change.. s i dunno how it arrived there...

also looks like UK will eventually drop the pound for the euro due to the new european crap thats happeneing

It actually has to be “Pounds Sterling” to be legal tender in the UK. Other countries also have a currency called “Pound”, e.g. “Cyprus”, “Egypt”, “The Republic of Ireland” used to have before the “Euro”, these I’m fairly sure are not same and not legal tender in the “U.K.”. The “Euro” is not legal tender in this country, but some large shops and tourist shops accept it.

“Great Britain” is “England”, “Scotland” and “Wales”. Where as the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” is, as the name suggests, the countries that make up “Great Britain”, plus “Northern Ireland”. Although most people use the terms interchangeably.

LOL. Incorrect. Germany has a far larger economy than the UK, even before you consider France, Holland, Spain, Italy etc.

Oh how we all love the Euro.
I'm gonna go raid my monopoly box, and buy a timeshare in Spain.
I believe that Drunken Poncho meant STRONGER ecomony, not bigger.
And joining the euro means that Europe sets the inflation rate, is that not control.
Long live the Pound and the Queen.

Not a fan of the euro myself, i don't really want anything to do with brussels tbh but thats not the only reason, From what i hear when we moved from pounds, shillings and pence etc. to pounds and pence as it is now it messed stuff up for quite a while.

How many euros will I get for a pound? Strength.
How many people use the currency on a day to day basis? Size.
    (I presume)

Gibraltar takes british pounds and gibraltarian pounds, and you can extract both from the banks (theyhave seperate bank machines) they also take euros as they are so small and you have to cross the spanish border every day. However, you cannot spend gibraltarian punds in britain eventhough they say sterling on them. (which sucks, cos i've got tones of them left over from when i was there in the summer)

the euro is worth, in the retail world, about 1.5 to the pound.
