    Question Poll: The Monarchy

Simple really, do you support the monarchy or want it abolished?

Personally I fully support the Queen, and as someone once said would fight and die for her cause if asked, I just see it as part of being British.

I feel no attachment to her, or the rest of the monarchy, i find the entire idea of it quite pointless as she holds little actual real power now.

    No, its a joke.
Ive never understood the Monarchy. I dont see why somone whos born into a family should be any more special than anyone else. If they had worked to get there though, thats a different matter.

I'm all for the monarchy, with a Queen the country has someone to look up to. They also bring a lot of tourism into the country and support various charities etc.

Isn't it like that with everyone though? Some people are born into rich families, some are born into poverty in third world countries. They're not as rich as people would like to think and lots of them do a hard job.

Some people may be born into rich families.....but does it make them any better than people who aren't?

Why are they people to look up to?

Did I say it made them better? No I'm just saying we're all born into unequal circumstances and it's no different than being born into a royal family. I'm certainly not jealous of them, I think the Queen has one of the worse jobs in the country.

It's something to look up to because they're like a symbol and represent the country, which I think we should be proud of.

By definition them being royalty makes them better because of circumstances, does anyone deserve that simply for being born?

a flag is a symbol and something to look up to, a monarchy is a waste of money and space imho

How does it make them better? Yes they're richer and may have a few more privalages than us but I don't see how it makes them "better". I strongly believe that no one is better than anyone else on this planet.... but that's another discussion alltogether.

A flag is a symbol......but it's a bit of a boring one, has no personal touch, and you don't see tourists flocking to see it.

why should someone born into a family suddenly have the right to 'rule' a country. its undemocratic and wrong. plus they don't do anything anyway, just sit around and leach our taxes to live off.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

Because that's their job and their purpose. Just as if you were a MD of a company, you would represent that company but it wouldn't make the MD any more of a better person than the cleaner at the bottom of the hierarchy.

if it doesn't make them any better then why is the cleaner not in charge, surely if we are all as good as each other we as a nation should represent ourselves.

Thing is they don't rule the country, laws are passed by parliament who are voted for.

They do lots of things, its just most of it we're unaware of. Imagine having the job of the Queen (or King ), having to go round different places every day asking hundereds of different people what they do etc. You also wouldn't be able to go out and enjoy yourself either or the press would have a field day.

I don't think they "leach of our taxes" either. If you get figures for how much we contribute to them and compare it to how much revenue is generated from the tourism etc they bring it's insigificant......Once I was talking to a (stupid) American online, when she found out I was from England she seriously said "oh England, do you know the Queen?" I'm not gonna repeat the answer I gave but doesn't it prove a point if the one thing someone knows about us that we have a monarchy?

Define better or I can see this going on for a while, imo not being better is not the same as being treated equally.
