ASUS SATA drivers Windows XP install stop error

Just posting this for the info of anyone who gets stuck like I just did, & does a search on these forums.

If you're installing Windows XP (Pro in my case) use the SATA drivers from the motherboard CD, copied to floppy, - not ones downloaded from the ASUS site (at least, not initially).

I tried downloaded the latest SATA drivers for the A7N8X Deluxe, & Windows would not install ... went ok until it restarted as part of the process, but then gave me error -

    "Stop: 0x0000007B (0XF7C4A640, 0XC000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)"

The SATA files from the m/board CD worked fine.

the ones off the silicon image website worked fine for me. Very stable and very quick. The original sw drivers from the nforce package did that though. That was really annoying.

    Hi,

I had similar problems with this mobo.

I'd make sure you've got the latest bios which updates the SI firmware for the SATA channels before doing anything else.

You got native SATA drives or std IDE ?

My board eventually went back for replacement to Asus as I could not get the SATA channels to work properly with Windows.

Sounds like you have 'boot from CD' still enabled in Bios. Once your XP CD has copied all the necessary files over you need to go back into Bios and make sure it's set to boot from the relevant hard drive and not from CD.
