    Dead Pixel Policy

Hi I received my new 22" Cibox Monitor that was on weekend special this morning. Hooked it up on my existing PC for a test run and found it has a dead pixel. Anyone know what Scans return policy is for this? (I know PC world quoted me something like 5% when I had a previous monitor with a dead pixel)

According to the distance selling rules you can send it back within 1 week of receipt I think. As to whether Scan would want to negotiate with you would be upto them.

Yup. DSR lets you return the product for full refund minus shipping costs if you arrange within 7 days from the day after you get the product. You must make sure you raise the RMA with Scan though and of course return it in 100% resaleable condition.

www.scan.co.uk/iso.asp - I know it only covers up to 19" but it scales pretty well up the range.

You can always reject under the DSR's but dont forget, you cover the return postage and dont get your original carriage cost's back, and you run the risk of the second monitor being just the same.

The larger the resolution the larger the number of pixels it can have dead and be 'ok'. The fault tollerance on class 2 is really quite bad when considering a large screen, but that's what you get.

If it's only 1 pixel then you are going to have to go the DSR and cough up for postage. Good luck!

Or you could try starting with Scan's dead pixel policy

    http://www.scan.co.uk/iso.asp

Also, be careful when quoting the Distance Selling Act (Consumer Protection) 2000. As the main intent of the law wasn't dealing with goods that were faulty on reciept (that's mostly the Sales of Goods acts). It's more to protect consumers against items being supplied not as described (i.e. you order a black monitor and they send you a pink one)

The best bet is to speak to scan

But DSR does come with a 7 day after purchase cooling off period where the customer has a right to change his mind about the product ordered after inspecting the goods.

The retailer's and manufacturer's argument on this is that 1 pixel is not considered faulty. We may disagree ....

you would of thought by now the process of making TFT monitors would be perfected to a point where dead pixels where rare.

Slypie, yeh its weird. I have a Sony KDL-32D3000 32" TV - no dead pixels, a Dell 24" 2407WFP - no dead pixels, a Viewsonic VX910 - no dead pixels.

My mate just bought a new HP 19" monitor and its got 4 dead pixels! He doesnt mind it but it would drive me insane.

I wonder what kind of % of monitors actually have dead pixels these days as I have been really lucky or is it the people with dead pixels being unlucky?

Must be fairly rare - I've used perhaps 30 different LCDs over the last year and never seen a single dead pixel.

1 dead pixel on a 22" screen would most definately be classed as not faulty, in fact on a 19" monitor it would need to have around 7 to be classed as faulty on a 22" screen thats going to be even more.
As others have stated you could use your 7 day right of rejection under DSR and you will have to pay to return the item at your own cost.

    Wesley

P.S. I would agree with people over the years I have worked at Scan the issue of Dead Pixels is getting less and less, we almost hardly have to deal with any calls regarding dead pixels now.

I believe Samsung have a Zero Dead Pixel policy. So buy Samsung and they will replace it under warranty and Zero Dead Pixel Policy.

    Good times.

If anyone has read the sept 07 cpc mag, theres some java app you use and run over the region where there is a dead pixel and this program actually loosens and fixes the dead pixels !

We have tried this sort of thing in the past and it has never seemed to work, but could be worth a try I suppose.

It doesn't fix dead pixels, only stuck pixels.

I have used the program a couple of weeks ago with no luck.
