Ok i just this morning got my new pc, its an e6750, 4 GB of 6400 RAM, 8800gts on a P5N-E motherboard. Basically im having sound issues, everything else seems to work fine, but im not getting any sound at all apart from when im in the main menu screen. The only thing i can think of is that i dont have a sound card that supports the required whatever it is. Could someone please tell me what the problem is and/or point me in the direction of a way to fix it. Thanx in advance
I've heard other people have turned off EAX or something similar in the options and this fixed it.

damn cos eax isnt even on, apparently this is a seriously buggy gameafter spending over 1 k i didnt want any hiccups
It's not your PC hardware thats at fault, it's a poorly coded PC game. Does it happen in any other games or just this one ??

Try something else, then oyu'll know if it's your new hardware or if it's a software issue. The fact that all general Windows sounds are working alright would point to the fact that it's a problem within the game.
well if its a problem with the game what should i do?
... Play something else? BioShock aint the most stable software title in the world, I've had many issues with it. Are you using on-board sound or dedicated sound card?

Firstly try updating sound drivers - especially look for any openAL fixes.
Secondly try disabling or lowering hardware sound acceleration - you can do this in the sound tab of dxdiag.
its on board sound. and i dont know how to get to dxdiag, sorry im such a noob
go start->run and type dxdiag

Try another game for sure. Just to test. And yeah, even an onboard sound chip can have new drivers, so make sure you have the latest.
If another game works, then Bioshock is just being crap. And if the other game doesn't work, then you know its that sound chip of yours.
Either way though, you might want to consider just getting a proper sound card if you intend to play games. Even something like this:

You could do a lot worse than just buying that and sticking it in your PC. You've got more hope of being able to play more games without any compatibility issues with that, rather than a sound chip built into your motherboard. The X-Fi cards aren't perfect, but I'd take one over a built-in-motherboard-sound-chip any day. They also have great quality sound. Can't really go wrong with them.
