Microsoft releases new Vista Ultimate Extras, Hell freezes over

No, you're not dreaming. Those are two brand new Ultimate Extras you're seeing on your Windows Update.

I wanted Media Centre & needed domain support so it was unfortunately the only option. I see what you're saying though, and I fully expected the Ultimate Extras to be crappy when I bought it (anyone who expected otherwise needs their head looking at)

Media Center + Remote Desktop. I admit the extras did have an influence too. If you're building a powerful system then you want the "best" (most capable) OS available imo...

Remote desktop can be enabled on non-ultimate Vista though.. with a little time and effort. My Home Premium allows it now, as well as concurrent login via RD.

    Worth every extra penny I paid for Ultimate...not! What a rip-off & what a p--s poor offering.

    Disappointing
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

I got my copy cheap (£60) if I paid full price I would of been just a little cheesed off. Vista is one of the most expensive rip off's in years.

    I think the word is...Underwhelming.

I have two clients who insisted on 'ultimate' no matter what I said. I saw one of them last week, he asked me what were the extras he gained by using this version, he was not too happy. I managed not to say "told you so."

Re: Microsoft releases new Vista Ultimate Extras, Hell freezes over

I must be going stupid - is there not a quicker way to hide all the pigging language pack updates than right-clicking one-by-one and choosing hide? Surely there's a better way...

Re: Microsoft releases new Vista Ultimate Extras, Hell freezes over

Did people buy Ultimate to get the Ultimate extras? Surely that was for the gullible. I mean the products they used to sell like the Plus! packs were so dire, did you expect anything better than screensaves and themes, for what essentially amounted to free?

The true value of Ultimate is in the networking support with Media Center and things. It's a niche product, and was always going to be.

Hell no! I bought it primarily for 64-bit, the added security and Media Center. The Extras haven't proved useful at all so far for me - I've no need for BitLocker and DreamScene is a waste of system resources (a nice gimmick but not worth paying more for).

I like the idea of bitlocker for the one simple reason, i live in london and as such plan that i will be burgled.

If someone nicks my pc, they will have everything they need to userp me on it. All my accounts, tax code, everything they could possibly want.

Bitlocker will make it to hard for them to be bothered to find that info.

(but i think the masses need to understand the extra data recovery problems they could face)
