OK, i have 2x1GB in my mobo right now, DDR-800. Do I go for another 2x1GB set or buy a 2x2GB set and sell my current set?

Thats what i'm planning on doing when i have some spare cash
(but mainly because my TRUE blocks one of the memory slots sooo....) but also 4 DIMMS can actually slolw things down under certain circumstances and it has been known to cause instability when O/Cing

just remember that you will need a 64bit O/S to utilise more than 3.5GB

I know this is said often, but it really, really is worth adding more RAM to a system that currently features only 1GiB or 2GiB.

The pricing is so enticing that it would it would be rude not to.

Take advantage of memory manufacturers' woes - where little profit is being made in DDR2 - and stock up, I say.

I've just bought 4gb of Corsair XMS for under £70 to replace my 2gb. Bargain I can only use 3gb of it at the moment though, stoopid xp

Before anyone with Vista x64 goes for 8GB - it isn't worth it. (for gaming etc)
    However, 4GB certainly is
I say this from experience but dont regret maxing out my RAM.

Thought about doing that as well - but I got 4gb (2x2) ftm. Then, I'll wait and see what happens come Nehalem time (when I'm upgrading).
    1. If DDR3 is at a good price, I'll get 8gb of that (and a suitable mobo), sticking the 4gb in my MCE (for 6gb on Vis64prem)
    2. If DDR3 is not at a good price, I'll get 4gb more DDR2 - hopefully at a cheaper price (& leave VMC alone).

For the moment, I think you're right, badass. I read a good article on Tom's contrasting 2, 4 and 8gb options. Even for exceptionally tough new games, the extra 8gb saw no improvement over 4.

However, FarCry2, when it comes out, sounds like it'll need a LOT of ram. From what I read, there is only one "level" - that covers 50 square kilomters. (Or is that km^2 - I'm not sure. Either way) I am sure of one thing: you're going to need a serious amount of Random Access Memory.

    FarCry2 - become a true Nomad. (Ahem.)
