Pioneer DVD-120 Slot Load

Two questions.

1. How can I change the horrible beige front on this other than painting it (OEM so ugly without Pioneer written on it )? It will hopefully go into a black case soon so want it black. Coz it's the slot loading one I can't use a bezel.

2. I heard somewhere about quietening this drive by something to do with firmware I believe, but I can't find anything about it. Is there a piece of software made by Pioneer that will silence (well nearly) this drive? It's not really that loud, but I'm trying to shave off a few dB here and there...

I would imagine the only way would be to remove the bezel and vinyl dye/spray paint it black.

There is a program (which i can't find) which would enable some kind of acoustic management on this drive and slow it down which made it pretty much silent, but I seem to remember it killed the performance of the drive, though it might be worth trying if you can find it.

i had one of these, got it second hand for £3 or somethiing stupid though it was sold to me as dead... worked fine in my pc and iirc it sold for £25..
mine wasnt at all niosy, if it is it was onlyh when disks were in anyway - just take them out when not needed...
also mine had been sprayed black by the prev owner and it dd look quite good, even in my partly biege case...

Hey Big Al, got a slot load Pioneer front here if you want one to paint?. I got a spare front as i was gonna do my old 106S but sold i and bought some new drives instead. Any good to you?.

Hmm, if I was going to paint it, then I'd take mine off and do it. Cheers anyway, but if I do cock anything up then I'll keep it in mind that you have a spare.

I know it's not that loud (especially over other fans) but all these decibels add up you know! It's only when I watch DVD's that I notice it, all other times I don't care.

It was relatively easy to take off the front of a 106s, mine is currently purple. But i'm going to need to re-spray it black to match the case.

If you take the fluffy stuff off the inside it's really easy to spray it!
(And as i can remember it's really easy to take the bezel off once it's out the case)

I wouldn't know about the new ones though.
