However when do they come out in a few months with i7 will they drop to the price of current dual-channel packs>

I doubt prices will change the day i7 releases. Although if i7 sales are strong and a lot of people adopt it quickly, then DDR3 prices will start to fall.

Prices will change as the market dictates the move of manufacturing from DDR2 to DDR3.

4gb DD2 800 is cheaper then 4gb 667, are there any cases where 667 would be preferable? surely the 800 would just run below spec on a 667 system?

I'm pretty sure there aren't, it's just freak pricing since 667Mhz RAM is being phased out a bit. You can get it cheaper anyway, although not Crucial...

aye, i remember it happening as far back as FP and EDO on 72 pinners - but im sure there were actually computability issues there. surely the 667 is only for fools now then?

still use em for backup sticks when the mobo doesn't boot up cos of the ram

That makes me feel slightly better about spending ~&#163;60 on my 2GB 667 13 months ago.

Graphics card quartering in value is to be expected of course.

I hate to think what DDR3 early adopters are going to be feeling in a years time.

It does not seem that long since I paid &#163;275 for 2 gig of ddr1 to go with my fx53 it was the corsair stuff with flashing lights. OC'd like hell and still runs today at fsb of 260mhz at cas of 2.5. Gave huge memory bandwidth at that speed. How things have changed. The real difference in performance of most apps between ddr2 667 and even ddr3 2000 is not huge particularly games. The odd app that needs big bandwidth will obviously do better. Although I think things may change a bit with i7.
