I think AMD have done enough to give Intel a scare. Obviously Core i7 is still the performance king but with the current economic climate marketing something as "best value" is not a bad move. It will be interesting to see how Intel respond to the Phenom IIs.

Wud have been nice to see it compared to a 6600 as thats still the most popular CPU, regardess of its manufacturing process.
I agree the price nof both chips needs to drop 10-20 at least and tbf i dont see why it is so expensive. AMD have been keeping themselfs alive due to their value angle of the market. They relly should have kept that mentality up and these thing would sell like hotcakes, i mean you can stick them on an Nvidia 8200 board for £50 and get Hybrid SLI (assuming you have a compatible NVid Gfx card).
The product deserves a higher score... but not at that price.
Il look forward to seeing how close to the i7 the DDR3 version is and how intel responds with regards to their pricing.
Im sure we can all agree that at least finally Intel have something to fight against.

It's got a wider range of cpu's for comparison. Closest is a Q6700 which is sort of close

like others have said, intel dont need to cut the price of their i7's and AMD pretty much cemented that theory
sure core 2 will go down in price, then what has AMD have to offer after that if the price of an P2 build is the same as a core 2?
Yes fight against their last gen CPU... the mid ranged one that the majority will be buying into. The C2 price cuts i was talking about. If intel wnt to laugh at them all they need to do is drop the costs of the higher end Q9 series... but will they do it?
no need to. their mid/low range Q9 series is more then a match for AMD'S "best" efforts
I disagree, when you bring price into the equation i think the AMD chip is a real competitor for that exact market point. The bit tech review gives you a bit more scope on how they fit into 'league' tables.
Certainly something for me to look at for a future upgrade
AMD's new strategy - CPU and GPU - appears to be "target the mid-range and work out the high-end later".
Personally, I'm ok with that
Importantly, when you take into account the price of an Intel vs AMD motherboard, generally speaking, the AMD ones are usually a bit cheaper than Intel's equivalent.
The big OEM's do not care who has the performance crown - if they can get the same performance from an AMD platform for $22 cheaper than with Intel, that's $22 extra of potential profit
Once the initial rush is over, hopefully there will be a small price decrease and I'll be able to pick one of the 940's up.
