Great review - we've been looking forward to this one!
And the chip delivers too - I hope AMD have enough margins to make this one profitable, because it's finally competitive with lynnfield IMHO.
I wouldn't mind purchasing it as part of a motherboard bundle, but I'd expect to get the motherboard I wanted and not have to pay any extra for doing so!
Interesting that despite your adding 10% to various lines, the core voltage when overclocked manually is less than when you allowed turbo mode to kick in at stock speeds. (although this isn't reflected in power draw figures - explanation?) :

Moral of that story is not to trust CPU-Z implicitly. It's good for clockspeeds but not so great on reporting accurate voltages.Originally Posted by kalniel

I think Intel will have to reduce some prices soon as AMD have caught up - (not king of the hill, but up there with the big boys )

Indeed, interseting review, certainy made me reconsider my plans for upgrading. The price tag and decent performance make it very appealing indeed.
now if only AMD can confirm bulldozer will be out on the AM3 socket then i would be picking one of these up asap.
I think I read somewhere Bulldozer will use Socket AM3+ which is physically the same as AM3 and should be compatible with a BIOS upgrade like AM2-AM3.
Edit: According to this you can use older chips in AM3+ motherboards but AM3+ chips will not work in older boards: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2368186,00.asp
AMD also told us that it will introduce a new AM3+ socket for consumer versions of Bulldozer CPUs. AM2 and AM3 processors will work in the AM3+ socket, but Bulldozer chips will not work in non-AM3+ motherboards.

Now if they want to bundle this CPU with an AM3+ motherboard...When we initially set out on the path to Bulldozer we were hoping for AM3 compatibility, but further along the process we realized that we had a choice to make based on some of the features that we wanted to bring with Bulldozer. We could either provide AM3 support and lose some of the capabilities of the new Bulldozer architecture or, we could choose the AM3+ socket which would allow the Bulldozer-base Zambezi to have greater performance and capability.

Nope. Turbo core throttles up the speed above the nominal max CPU speed if you aren't using all the cores.
So if you're only using three or fewer cores, then the chip turbos them up to a higher speed than normal because there's more power/thermal headroom.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
I got mine from Aria when they had them on their website, interestingly idle power draw isn't much higher than it was for my E7200!
The difference in power draw with these X6's really is phenomenal. There are a lot of very skilled people at AMD and Globalfoundries, who can do this while being at such a disadvantage vs intel.

Might just as well be the last hurrah of my not so old system. Though having recently unlocked the fourth core of my 720 BE, I might as well stick with this for as long as the 1055T or something similar is available.
